The name in itself describes this place - coconuts. The people are super friendly and very helpful, the bargin bins are to die for when looking for dvds at cheep prices, and the atmosphere is awesome. Don't forget to check out the upper floor for great selections on games and ipod accessories. Its located right off state street for easy access when shopping with the family on the weekends!

Wayne and his crew have been taking care of me since my bar band days in the early 90's. Fair prices on Guitars, amps, basses, and whatever else is laying around. The stuff is mostly used so it helps to know what you are doing, but if you play guitar this place is amazing. It is also a new store every time you go, because it's not a museum. They actually turn over their inventory fairly regularly.

Maybe it's me, but I usually find record store clerks to be smart allecks (did you see John Cusack's High Fidelity?) That's the kind of people I mean. Although... I wouldn't mind walking into the store if a babe like Cusack is behind the counter. Anyway, I love this store because the people who work here are cool and helpful, and they have a great selection of used CDs and videos.

This Borders has any type of book that you need and a great cafe but the real reason that I love it is because it is building up the area around it. Currently this location isn't known to be all that safe at night, but because of Borders corporate feel and popular demand it is making this area of Chicago grow into a more developed and safer location.

Nationwide vidoe is my choice video rental store in the area. For one, it is always less crowded than Blockbusters or Hollywood vide. Also, it has a better selection of non mainstream movies and videos. for instance, they have lots of foreign film selections and older films that are hard to find anywhere else. They also have some great deals here. The rental prices are a bit lower than the chains and they also have the monthly movie pass so you can get unlimited rentals. Its a nice place with good service.

This instrument store has been here as long as I can remember. I grew up in this great neighborhood and when I started learning guitar as a teen I visited this store many times to buy guitar strings (and to hang out with other kids to learn Stairway to Heaven). We are the reason for the reference to this in "Wayne's World". Seriously this is a great store to buy guitars, amps and accessories. I'm glad they have survived and done well. Loyola college is nearby which probably doesn' t hurt their business any either.

These people are so great! I had a timing issue on getting my headshots done, and this guy at national photo was right there with me, helping me out despite the fact that they had a lot of problems with the photo quality and the timing. They're professional, thurough and conciencious of the needs of their consumer- me. I'd go there for any photographic imaging you need, they're pretty resonably priced and treat you like you're worth every penny.

Blockbuster is my most favorite place to rent movies from. The place has a huge selection of movies and video games to choose from. They offer DVDs and VHS. I always go here for new movies that have just come out. The new releases are almost always in stock. All you need is to sign up for the Blockbuster card to start renting movies from here. This is my number one place to rent movies from!

My favorite place for shopping in Chicago...Hard Boiled is one of a dying breed. A true independent store. The staff is the owner, and he loves what he sells. He's turned his passion for music and movies into a store catering to those of us who enjoy the obscure. Inquire about something no one else has heard of, and chances are you'll get an answer. I know it sounds too good to be true, but if you're an independent music and/or film lover, Hard Boiled is the only place you should be shopping.

I origionally found this company by seeing a print ad for them in a local entertainment free paper(the Illinois Entertainer). It just so happened that they are located only a couple of miles from my home and were able to get the job done for me in a very timely manner. I had just finished up in the recording studio and need a box of cds duplicated so I could release them in stores and sell them online. Paul the owner personally took care of my order and I got to chat with him a bit. The prices here are great and so is the quality of the workmanship.Thanks Paul!
