First thing you need to know is that the place was practically empty of customers when we arrived, and this was a Saturday at nearly noon. The interior is early dumpster. The brunette behind the bar had no control over her LOUD MOUTH. The waitress was hard put to remember our order. I had to tell her three times that I wanted cream with my coffee. We waited over an hour for our two small pizzas. Finally we had to ask our waitress to check it out, which took her 15 minutes to get around to doing. When she finally asked the cook and came back to us, she explained that they had a large take-out order that they were working on and that our pizza wouldn't be ready for another 15-20 minutes! That was the last straw. We told her it would have been good to know that 45 minutes ago. We asked for the check and she said "Can't you wait another 15 minutes?". Would YOU wait ANOTHER 15 minutes? Again, we asked for the check for our drinks. It was nice of her to waive the drinks, but we'll NEVER, EVER be back to that DDD... DUMP AGAIN!

Got to the ORIGINAL location about 6pm. Two big parties. This place must be popular. I have read about Vito and Nick and have ate a Vito and Nicks 2 but that is for another review that I need to do. Actually drove by one and am staying across from the other one over by Harlem.
But on to the review, ordered a small sausage and cheese. extra sauce, lite on the cheese as I hate the cracks filling up as I think when you cut it that means there is too much. I also said cooked well.
Got it in about 15 minutes.
Grabbed a piece as got no silverware and took a bite. The reviewer before was correct as my piece was soggy and so was the whole pie. JUst folded over in my fingers. It was also luke warm as I ate that piece and did not even burn my mouth. (it was already hurting from a small pizza from the Home Run Inn on 31st that I burnt it on at 4pm but another review for that there)
I ate not quite half as was getting full and the waitress came over and asked how it was. Told her it was pretty soggy for a thin and crispy and just luke warm She took it back and put it in the oven for a little longer and brought it out in a box as I said I was ready to go when she took it. I tried another piece and still the same. SOGGY
I watched some others around me eat and there were a couple plain clothes cops come in and I watched them eat and each piece they picked up limped on them also . Same with another table.
I try to give the benifit of the doubt.. Maybe next time will or could be different. if there is a next time as too many place to try in Cicagoland when I do not live here.
I did not care for the sauce as seemed blah as did the sausage. But the taste together was not unedible by no means.
Just, after reading all the great comments I expected more. Especially after I had a great pizza at the Vito and nicks ll store.
It just did not live up to what everyone was saying. Also they only take cash!
Pros: it is very thin. If it was done longer it would be an excellent pizza.
Cons: Soggy, soggy soggy. not hot like it just came out of the oven.

To the reviewer who had the soggy pizza: You must just have had bad luck. I've been going to Vito & Nick's for years, and I have never experienced a soggy pizza or anything other than a superior product.
Vito & Nick's is the quintessential Chicago-style cracker crust pizza. Crispy crust, nice balance of toppings, clean-tasting sauce that is not overly sweet (like Palermo's "sugar sauce.") I generally order mine well done to get a little extra char on it. Other pizza joints worth visiting for their cracker crust: Aurelio's in Homewood, Marie's, Pat's, and perhaps Candlelite. But, for me, Vito & Nick's is in a class by itself.

I looked up Chicago pizza on Citysearch last night and found many people raving about Vito & Nick's. I had Vito & Nick's pizza last night and what a disappointment. First of all twenty bucks for a 16" sausage and cheese and the amount of sausage was nothing to brag about. The sauce was nothing special since there was so little on it. And I was expecting this nice, thin, crisp crust the way everyone was raving about. Instead, it was this soggy slop. Luckily they cut the pizza in tiny pieces, like appetizer size, so I could finish each piece in a couple bites which kept me from having to fold every piece in half like a tiny pizza gyro just to hold it. While waiting for my order to come out of the oven I watched them make a few sausage pizzes. Here's this kid pinching off miniscule pieces of sausage and putting it on the pizza. I kept thinking to myself "geez, could you spare it? You suppose you could make the pieces a little smaller?"
For a few bucks more I could have had an 18" Palermo's pizza with a nice thin crust, superb sauce and a lot more sausage, better tasting too. Now that's a pizza with some serious ingredients. When you pick it up you know it's a good hearty meal with plenty of good stuff on it. If I was on the far southside I'd recommend Italian Villa in Orland Park. Great tasting sausage and plenty of it. Thin crust. Delicious sauce. And reasonably priced. Papa Luigi's (107th & Ridgeland Ave in Chicago Ridge) is better than V&N's plus they deliver. Which reminds me when I asked if they delivered they looked at me like "are you freakin' kidding?"
I will not, repeat, WILL NOT be going back to Vito & Nick's. Strongly suggest you don't either. Anyone who stated this was the best pizza in Chicago has either never had good pizza or compares this to Dominos or Pizza Butt. Admittedly, it did beat those two brands but not by much.
Pros: It beats Dominos or Pizza Butt.
Cons: Skimpy sausage, over priced, soggy crust, minimal sauce.

The first time I tried Vito & Nick's Pizza was about twenty years ago when I lived in Chicago and it was great! Now that I live here in the burbs, I still think this is one of the better pizzas in town. I'd rate this as the third best with Aurelio's in Homewood #1 and Fox's in Orland Park #2.

For years our family has enjoyed the great pizza at Vito & Nick's. We now live in Erie, CO. & cannot find ANY pizza out here that can measure up to the authentic & homemade pizza we had within a few minutes drive from our house in Evergreen Park. When we visit relatives, V&N is our first stop. For those of you that can partake of this great pizza, we envy you!
Pros: Terrific food & servers are super! Very accomodating to families.
Cons: None really -- Wish Vito & Nick's pizza locations were out here in Colorado.

My grandparents were the very first customers at Vito and Nick's way back when. My father and aunts grew up on this pizza. THIS is the real Chicago-style pizza - not that over-doughy, gooey bread with bland sauce that passes for pizza.
If you don't live in the area, do yourself a flavor (pun intended) and order their frozen pizza online and have them shipped to your home. When eating it, you may not be in 7th Heaven as if you were getting it directly fresh from Nick's, but it's at least 6th Heaven!
All those who prefer thick crust pizza have never eaten at Vito and Nick's or they are seriously deranged - and I mean that in the nicest possible way. ;-)
This is the way pizza is supposed to taste. Except no substitutes. Life is too short.
Pros: Homey feel, nice regulars, comfortable ambience and feel about the place.
Cons: for me, the only con is that I don't live closer to it!

Well I must say that Vito and Nix is good pizza but I certainly never thought it would rate in one of the best Chicago Pizzas. I am a spokeman on this manner and am a native Chicago Southsider. And anyone that has got to put in their reviews that New York is the Pizza Capital in the Universe, "Go Back to New York!" I think the reason that it is here however is that good south side pizza might be dwindling and Vito and Nix just stood the test of time and is still there. And no one that live's in this area has a choice. Anyone living on Kolmar would certainly order this pizza over Dominoes being it is a real pizza but if you are coming to Chicago and want to taste what Chicago pizza is all about, I would not go out of my way to come to Vito and Nix. Why? It is just your average Chicago Southside pizza that has been copied so much through the years it really has no taste of it's own. Nothing distinct and the bathroom smells. And is is not like a bite is going to send you off in the stratosphere. I would not want a New Yorker to come to Chicago and eat here, it might ruin our reputation as to what Chicago pizza is all about. This pizza is nothing like the long gone great places of the Likes's of Chesdans and Bo's pizza and it is just your average Chicago Pizza and if you want a pizza that represents what Chicago pizza is, this is not the place. Move on to Home Run inn or Giordano's . There is good pizza and bad pizza in Chicago Just like New York and anyone thats says New York is the Pizza Capital in the universe has some homework to do but don't start at Vito and Nix, that was your first mistake.
Pros: None
Cons: Not geographically strategic

You want thin crust? Don't you dare go anywhere else. There ain't another pizza joint that knows how to do it like Vito & Nick's Been goin there for 35 years and it's still the same, so is the furniture, but who cares it's a pizza joint?
South Pulaski won't be the same if it ever closes. I read about the original owner, who died about 3 years ago, Nick. He may be dead, but his pizza isn't and will live on forever. This is still a family owned establishment and must have the recipe embedded in their heads.
They recently opened a new restaurant in Lemont @ the old Lemont Lanes on State St. If you like updated ambiance, and the same pizza for the best price inthe area, go there! If you're looking for banquet facilities from the same cook, go there. I just go there for the pizza..............It's still the best Nick, wherever you are!
If you're looking for cons, it ain't in this review! They do no wrong here, in Chicago or Lemont!
Pros: Pizza, Pizza, Pizza and plenty of cops having lunch
Cons: Notta one!
