My wife and I frequent Kotobuki once every couple of weeks. We really enjoy the sushi and you can usually order items that are not on the menu. Relative to other Japanese places in Chicago, the food is priced lower and, in our opinion, tastes better.

I love this place. My mother is Japanese and I grew up eating wonderful home-cooked Japanese food. Going to Sunshine makes me feel as though I'm in her home, eating her meals. The food here is really authentic and delicious and very reasonable. The atmosphere and the staff do even more to make you feel at home. They are amazingly friendly and warm and always put a smile on my face.
Pros: Great authentic food, Inexpensive, Great staff

At least not like they were... The south loop location recently changed their BYOB policy to include a $20 corking fee. Not the best surprise to say the least. They do have a full bar, but for me the charm of this place is lost. The bucktown location still has BYOB for a resonable corking fee so I'll be heading there next time. Still loved the food.
Pros: Great food and Ambience
Cons: BYOB fee is $20!!!

Unique dining experience - brunch has unusual but very tasty selections - recommend Hungryman Futomaki, Pear ginger French toast & the Red Curry Shrimp. The best part is the food is good for you! Tried them a second time for after theater dining - small plates, wide variety & fun time. The skirt steak wrapped in butter lettuce & the bacon wrapped quail breast were exceptonal. Service is excellent and friendly. We shall return with friends. Shochu drinks are unique & interesting to order. Left feeling good!
Pros: Ambience, variety, unique menu items, private paito setting in back court yard
Cons: Shochu is new concept - doesn't define it as a restaurant

This particular Kamehachi is perfect place for lunch or when you are on the go! I recommend all Kamehachi for their excellent sushi and service!

I think the restauranteurs should just scrap the "sushi" in their name. I had eaten at Cafe Sushi, which was excellent, the day before and since Kamehachi wasn't open for lunch on Sunday, I headed over to this joint. Sushi was really just mediocre. Freshness is obviously not a forte and the unagi was drenched in such a sugary glaze that I swore I was eating sugar coated sushi. It looked like the tables around me were enjoying their chinese food, so just don't order the sushi and you'll be quite happy.
Pros: good service, quick, inexpensive
Cons: bad sushi

I have been coming to this cute little restaurant with my Mom since I was 9. The place hasn't changed much at all inside or out. I love the service and of course the food. My fav is yaka soba (spelled wrong). It is buckwheat noodles flavored with sprouts and a tangy bar-be-que like sauce.
If you want to get a (real) drink all of the "rush street" bars are down the street.
Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: No parking, small area
