We got a great deal from the website hotwire on this hotel (yeah, you don't find out the hotel til you book, but you can figure out where you need to be with hotwire's maps, fyi) I highly recommend that site when looking for a great deal on a hotel downtown!
The Hilton Garden Inn is right in the hub of streeterville! Everything was in walking distance! The city view is so vivid at night! Our beds were soft and relaxing with some very comfy down sheets/blankets! Plenty of pillows for you bed hogs and our room (and we found out later every room) had a mini-fridge and microwave. Oh, and don't get suckered into the $4.95 bottle of water by the coffee machine, rip off city!
The only real downside were the "angry maids" that we heard in the hallway slamming doors and talking very loud...otherwise, we got some decent sleep and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The guest service at the front desk is outstanding. The employees were very receptive and gave us plenty of information to help us with our stay downtown. Everything we came to do was in walking distance from the Hilton, so we saved big $$$ on cab fare. The red-line is also right by this hotel...so your options seem unlimited!
I will stay here again and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a reasonably priced hotel in the middle of downtown!
Pros: Relaxing beds, nice clean rooms, attentive staff
Cons: Angry maids?

This hotel is nice and clean and reasonably priced (for a downtown hotel). The staff are really pleasant--they are always helpful with maps, suggestions for local events and restaurants, and especially important (to me, anyway) shopping assistance! The hotel is only about a block and a half from the Northbridge Mall (awesome), and within three or four blocks of restaurants like Bucca di Beppo, Fogo de Chao, a good PF Changs, Rock Bottom Grill, etc. It's also a block and a half from Michigan Avenue and right next to a Red Line El stop, which means that Chinatown is just a hop, skip, and jump away. The hotel restaurant is the Weber Grill, which is a pretty fun place at night (lots of people, great cosmopolitans, and games on the televisions) and has a yummy chop salad. It seems like all of Chicago downtown is within walking distance when you stay at this hotel. This is our "go to" hotel when visiting Chicago--my husband and I have stayed here about 20 times now and we've never had a bad experience.
Pros: Close to Michigan Ave, great service

Traveling with 15 and 11 year olds can be asking for trouble, but we were pleasantly surprised to find the hotel right at the subway stop. Take the turn for the NE corner, up the steps and you are practically in the door! We were not sure what to expect, but we had a clean, quiet room and an attentive staff. The pool was small and the hot tub looked a little too foamy. OK, alot too foamy! This hotel is in a location surrounded by other hotels that would be considered a step up, but you really can't go wrong here. Tons of family dining options, and convienence stores are also nearby. Ask for a room on the north side. The view is better there. We would without question come back to this hotel. Thank you Hilton Garden Inn staff.

I travel extensively for business and spend a significant amount of time in hotels. I love the Garden Inn chain - they have microwaves and fridges in the room, so you don't have to eat out every meal. Not only does it save me a lot of money, but it also helps me eat a little better while on the road.
The staff at this Garden Inn is extremely friendly and helpful. I'd never been to Chicago before but heard about it's famous Jazz Scene. The valet directed me to the most famous Jazz bar around - the Green Mill.
Housekeeping is awesome - they seem to know exactly when I leave my room and it's always clean when I return - even if I just stepped out for lunch.
The location is absolutely fantastic as well... about 2 blocks from Michigan (Magnificent Mile) and there's a Red Line train station right outside the door so getting around town is totally easy!

Great location, only a short walk away from Michigan avenue, and in a great area for a variety of restaurants, bars, nightlife. The staff is very friendly. Check in/out was very quick. Rooms are average, just like any other hotel, very updated, not too small.
I would definetly recommend this hotel for anyone, business, pleasure, whether it be family or a romantic getaway.
Pros: location, reasonable

After having a bit too much on New Year's, my friend and I decided we couldn't even try to get home, and we stumbled into the Hilton Garden. The check-in staff were courteous and understanding (and even offered help up to our room, but we weren't THAT badly-off) and gave us a late check out for the next day. Three cheers for service! It is a comfortable, not too stuffy hotel near everything, but without the ridiculous price tag of its brother Hilton on Michigan. Great for the price.
Pros: COFFEE, quiet
Cons: ugly view
