This place is simply awesome! The hot dogs are to die for. Not only is the food great! But the atmosphere takes you back to another time. This place is simply a treasure. My kids love the food! the relish is neon green! Can you get any better than this?!? I highly recommend it for people who are from out of town, families, and everyone.
Pros: The food is great!
Cons: It can get too crowded

One of the first places I'll take out of town guests. Even though there's a long line, Doug delivers on the hype of the joint with great food and atmosphere.

I used to favor another dog shack until Byron's moved into my neighborhood, in Forest Park. I visit Byron's Madison Ave. location at least once a month now, because they make a perfect Chi-Town dog and the service is outstanding. I've enjoyed jumbo dogs dragged through the garden and topped with celery salt, served by people who treat me extremely well - they pay attention to every customer. Best of all, I can go in there, tie on my feed bag and eat inexpensively. I'm not a fat person, but I could be if I tried hard. They even give away free balloons to little kids. Many dog shacks use Vienna hot dogs but without the best condiments of good quality, no one can be like Byron's. I LOVE the nuclear-green relish. Visually, it's a real kick, and the tomatoes and pickles are a-plenty. Don't miss a perfect dog, served up by mid-westerners who actually like people. Go there. Thank me later.
Pros: Delicious, fresh food, generous sizes, excellent varierty on the menu
Cons: I wish I could go there every day but I can't. That is the only downside.

Built in 1953, with all used equipment and no experience by my Dad, Vince and his two brothers Manny and Joe, hence the name Man Jo Vin's. With little money and a dream, Man Jo Vins was born. It started as a hot dog stand where food was served through a window to loyal customers, winters as cold as ice and hot summers. The films of the grand opening of the Damen Ave. store and the little know Laramie store are in the family archives. All the uncles worked at MJV, including Uncle Frank Nuccio who recently passed away. He is loved and sorely missed. Lots of memories for me and my cousins at MJV. My first car was given to me in the parking lot (1961 Chevy, red and white). I am now 60 years old, but always stopped in when i was in Chicago. It made our families and that of the Porter, Nunzio Micelli, very comforable financially. My Dad sold his share in 1968 shortly after my wedding, and moved to Florida. The only day it closed was for funerals of my Grandmother and Grandfather and my wedding with my name on the marquis announcing the big day. What a thrill!!!! I still remember the pans of beef, the hot dogs steaming, the tamales. We now have family reunions and eat the same food now and it is just as delicious. Thanks for keeping MJV alive!!! And the memories for me....
