Since I can't really afford to shop at Fox and Obel quite yet, this is my second pick for a good market where I can get a good selection of organic and gourmet foods. Over the years, I have found a few great finds here that have become household for me.
Try their all natural drinks that come in several different flavors. They are so great that you will forget those soft drinks and won't even miss the caffiene. Plus, their fresh baked pastries are amazing too.
Customer service here is great too and prices are reasonable for the quality of the stuff and the great selection.

I like Whole Foods for the great selection it has. But it really isn't my sort of a place for my everyday groceries because it is so expensive. They carry lots of organic items here and they can run you almost double what you might pay at another grocery store. But everything here is really fresh and top quality. Some of my favorite things here are the cakes and pies they have here, they are so delicious.

I think I have stopped at White Hen Pantry several times when I needed to grab some milk or bread for home. It is a lot easier to stop here then at Jewel or Dominicks, because it is less crowded and they carry only limited neccessities, so you don't have to run through aisles of other things. I am always impressed with how nice and clean this place is kept. Its organized very well and makes for a quick stop for any of your basic things aroudn the house. Surprisingly, the pricing isn't that bad either.

This White Hen is reasonably priced and staffed by friendly people. You'll find a range of food items, random auto products, wine and spirit products. The store will randomly stock some fruits, most of which look unappetizing. I have never tried the custom sandwiches that they offer, but their pre-prepared meals, such as wrapped sandwiches and salads, are satisfactory.

This place takes every European or Polish Deli you've visited in Chicago and mixes them together into one enormous superstore. Wally's Market features and enormous bakery specializing in its own huge loaves of baked, rye bread. Sometimes we will go here for the bread alone. They have a great produce section and their shelves are stocked with all sorts of European products. Their meats are great too and they offer prepackaged Polish specialties in their freezers, too. I would highly recommend this visit. As far as I know this is only one of two locations, and coming here is like making a pilgrimage to Poland. Highly recommended!

This little grocery store reminds me of a small town market that could be in Anytown, USA. Some of the grocery items are on the pricey side, but the deli looked awesome and the breads were fresh. For the students that live on campus, this is a good place to pick up a couple things every now and then in between visits to a supermarket or produce store where they can save alot more $.

My sister's birthday was last Sunday. I couldn't find a bakery near me that was open on Sunday! So I went over to Treasure island in hopes of finding a decent cake for her. Their bakery was actually pretty nice. I had expected a Jewel or Dominicks type bakery but this place has a much better seelction and some very good looking cakes. The cake I ended up getting looked better than it tasted though. It was a red velvet cake that was pretty dry on the inside and was iced with an icing that was so sweet, it was hard to swallow.

The Jewel down the street from this Treasure Island is so jam packed that sometimes I just go here to get away from the crowds. I do like this store and love the gourmet, ethnic, and fresh items they stock. Their bakery especially is really nice and they stock a lot of really fresh baked goods here. I always find their prices to be very similar to Jewel and sometimes even a lot cheaper. Some of the specials they run here are really great and a lot better than even Jewel.
