I did a fair amount of online research prior to our visit to Chicago and was so happy I decided to give Avec a try. I wanted to eat somewhere hip, but not over the top serious with the food (I'm not into foams and gelees). I also wanted somewhere that offered small plates so my husband and I could share a few. The food was really nice...especially the cheese our server selected to pair with our wine. We also got a duck dish that was so so...it had a cold salad on top of it that just didn't seem to mesh well. All in all, I would recommend Avec to anyone wanting to sample several small dishes and have fabulous wine pairings.
The atmosphere is somewhat raucous (read: noisy), so if you're hoping for a quiet, romantic evening try somewhere else. Avec is ideal for a group of friends...but get there early as tables can be hard to get in this small eatery.

Despite the hour long wait that Saturday night the hostess managed to seat my girlfriend and I at a table for two in the back within minutes. It was crowded, yes, but I would expect no less of a restaurant such as this in a city such as Chicago. Like art that takes time to warm up to, the decor was a bit off-putting at first. However, now that a year has passed I find my visual memories of the one and only time that I?ve been to Bistro 110 to be colorful and spirited and it compliments the experience in hindsight. For a night so busy the food came relatively quick. For the appetizer we shared the artichoke stuffed with Brie after our server recommended it to us. It was interesting and quite good. It would not have been a choice I would have picked otherwise, so I am glad we trusted him on it. My girlfriend ordered the seared sea scallops. They were incredibly big, juicy and were sweet and smoky. The green peppercorn sauce added a touch of kick. From that night forward I believe any scallop we eat will be compared to the scallops at Bistro 110. I ordered monkfish, which was the special that night. It was some of the best fish I have ever had. I don't see it as an option on their online menu so it was likely just a short lived option. However, it was so good that I would highly recommend that you try experimenting with the chef?s specials at Bistro 110 because if they are as well prepared as mine was you will definitely enjoy your meal. Presentations of the meals were wonderful. Service was a bit rushed (understandably with the hour wait) but it was attentive, and our server was very helpful in his recommendations.
Pros: Delicious and creative dishes. Scallops and chef's specials are a must try.
Cons: It is crowded on busy nights.

I absolutely love Bistro Margot. I've been to this place a few times now and each time, it gets better. On my last visit, I had the duck medallions which far exceeded my expectations. If you have a hearty appetite, try the brie tart as an appetizer and the chocolate mousse/fudge (which is VERY small because it's so rich) for dessert - you'll want to order two or three more to take home. The service is a tad bit slower than you'd like, probably because people are just as impressed with their food and ambiance as I am. I highly suggest you make reservations so you can at least be seated and enjoy a glass of wine while you wait for a menu, etc.
Pros: romantic, close to Second City theatres as a date, great food
Cons: somewhat slow service

The friendly service is reason enough to go, but when you add in the delicious pan-asian food (mostly Thai inspired) and prices that are reasonable enough for a college student to eat their often, it is a really great local restaurant. The menu is very diverse with many great dishes. All are delicious and affordable, with very generous portions, so you can always try something new or settle with an old favorite. The noodle dishes are particularly great. For those that have trouble deciding, the kind and patient service is always willing to make a recommendation. It is hard not to become a regular to this charming place, and it is especially nice to eat out doors during fair weather.
Pros: Great Service, Great Prices

The meal was outstanding in every regard right down to the authentic French hard crust bread. The wine list was excellent in both quality of wines offered and value. The atmosphere was extremely nice and romantic, The only negative is the service staff. The bartender was not customer conscious, i.e. it took a while to get his attention and the waitress was very inattentive and slow. But overall we would highly recommend Brasserie Jo and deffinitely will be back.

my boyfriend took me here over the holidays. i was surprised by the mixed reviews on the food... we asked the waitress what to order and she must have steered us in the right direction because everything we ate was delicious. great wine list too!
we like to try new restaurants and sometimes (especially when it is a new trendy spot) they can be totally unremarkable, but this place really managed to make an impression.
my only complaint was that the hostess/bar area was totally disorganized. we had a reservation, but didnt sit down until 1/2 after it was scheduled, the hostess asked us 3 times if we were a different party, it took about 20 minutes to get the drinks we ordered and another 20 to find someone to pay.
Pros: food, wine, ambiance
Cons: trendy crowd, disorganized

I had the distinctive pleasure of dining at your restaurant last Wednesday for a friend?s birthday. Although she has eaten at your restaurant for years, I had never been to Cafe Bernard before. The atmosphere was relaxing and the music was at a perfect volume. The waitress that served us was engaging and not intrusive. My partner ordered the filet and I had the red snapper. Both entrees were cooked to perfection and our desserts were the perfect ending to an amazing meal. We will be frequent patrons of this incredible restaurant.
Pros: Knowledgable Staff, Excellent Food
Cons: Parking
