i love coming here. This is basically my home away from home when I'm in Chicago for business which is often. The staff all know me and the ladies...I love you all.
I've brought co-workers and clients here and have never been worried that they will be treated with anything but the utmost respect.
I might be biased in my review since I come here so much and have made many friends here but I think that in itself speaks for the type of service you'll receive here.
Pros: My home away from home
Cons: They need to have an offshoot in Indiana

I've grow an appreciation for thrift stores recently. I find I often like the pre-worn look on things. It's even better when the items were actually worn down my somebody, not just a machine. This is where thrift stores come in to play. Wack Cats is especially great. They always have interesting and unexpected clothes in stock. I don't know where they get this stuff from, either. Gotta love it. My new favorite hot spot for clothing. Can't be beat

Want to get back at your friends? Have them come to Whirly Ball with you. Once they get strapped in to that go cart they will understand what you mean by stop eating all of my chips, John! They put a whiffle ball out and it is your job to get it across the court and hit as many other people as you can in the process. As long as you can take a beating as well as dish one out then this place is a lot of fun.

PAWS is a devoted and driven non-profit organization in CHicago, protecting dogs and cats from being destroyed by finding them homes.
I have 2 lovely cats fom PAWS--they cost $75 each, which covered their neutering/spaying and shots. PAWS also puts tracking chips in their animals.
If you aren't able to adopt, but still want to help, you can donate your time. www.pawschicago.org

I have so many memories of this lovely concert venue. The first time I went here (just days after turning the big 21), I went to see the worst concert in the history of mankind. Do you remember a band named Bow Wow Wow? Yeah, I didn't think so...they were dreadful, but I still had a good time at Park West. After that night, I went back many more times and loved it because of the intimate setting. The outside doesn't look so hot anymore, but the theater itself is small and comfortable with a good sound system. A lot of great national and local bands have passed through these doors.

Anyone that are friends of nature, love birds and other animals, are trying to save and restore the environment are friends of mine. These folks do a terrific job and inspire others to care about nature trails and the preservation of God's creatures and land. They have a large part in the North Park Nature Center that is housed at the same location. If you live in the Chicago area and you appreciate nature you have to go by here and see for yourself. You can learn a whole lot more from them at www.chicagoaudubon.org

No matter what time of night it is when you find a animal in need, AWL will open its doors to you. I love the fact that they have a vet on staff. But when you go to view the animals, it's almost like visiting someone in prison. First you have to fill out an application and be approved before sitting in the waiting area for a staff member to walk back with you. Although they are tight, I think they have reasonable fees and do great work.

Wow! As a Chicago native, my friend told me that I had to check out this gallery in the River East Gallery district that sold "tons of LeRoy Neimans". I figured that this gallery would have a few pieces by him, but I was in awe to find that they had about 10 originals, some very large-scale and significant, as well as many different serigraphs. The gallery staff was very helpful and have located a very hard-to-find serigraph for me that they did not have in stock. They really know how to find almost any piece of his! If I had infinite resources I would definitely go on a shopping spree in this fabulous gallery! There are also very beautiful works by a couple of Chicago artists that would look great in any space. This is my new favorite place!

This is the best volunteer organization you will ever participate in. First of all, it is huge and has projects of all types, all the time. Second of all, if you don't want commitment, you don't have to commit! Just call in a week or so before you want to volunteer. So on busy weeks there are no worries, but other weeks you can jump right in. Lots of fun things to do with kids, seniors, building houses, cleaning parks, etc.

More
This great nonprofit organization has been around for over 30 years. Beginning in a small church on the U of C's campus, it was one of the first to sponsor free breakfasts for poor youths. Now at it's new digs on Woodlawn, it offers literacy and GED classes to adults who want to improve their reading and earn their GED. With day and evening classes, plus one-on-one tutoring, it's easy to accommodate any schedule. The Family Learning Class is especially great, with parents and children learning together. Also offers job interview training. A great way to change your life, either as an adult learner or a volunteer.
