Washington Mutual is not your typical old fashion fancy old school type bank. For good or bad depending on each persons opinion they have taken a more modern approach to banking by doing away with the tellers handling money. They atmosphere is really casual and laid back and they do offer a great free checking account, typically with a bonus to open.

I came across this "raiting system" after I closed my loan with Lakeshore. And I have to say my experience with them was fantastic. This is the third time I have closed on a condo purchase in the city of Chicago and also my third mortgage broker. But, now I will be sticking with Lakeshore if I need any further mortgage help. I have also referred several of my friends and co-workers to my the Loan officer I worked with, Adam Blake. He was referred to me by my Real Estate agent, who said he would do a great job and he did.
Pros: Responsive in calling me back, he always made himself available to me. Better rates then anywhere else I called...

I like this bank. This bank has only a few places where it is at but I think this is the best one so far. This one is big and there are many people working here. There are very nice people that work here who speak a few different languages too so it is easier to talk with them. They also have loan plans in addition to their checking and savings account plans. I like this bank very much because they are very nice to me and they take care of everything really good.

I love this bank. It is so easy to use and everything is very hassle free, or at least it has been for me for the past two years that I have been a customer of this bank. I think one of the best things this bank has is a really rigorous program against identity theft. They have called me even a few times to authorize big charges to my credit card. Amazing! Only problem with this branch is that there is not drive thru and parking can be major pain to find in the area.

So I took the advice of a roommate, and I started an account, my primary account at Corus Bank. I get interest on my free checking account because I have direct deposit, which is nice, though not that lucrative, due to my starving writer wages. The customer service is always nice, and they never seem to mind that I always forget my account number. The monthly statement includes copies of the few checks i write, and those are only for things that I can't pay online. The online services are free, and make online banking easy. My biggest complaint is that there are only four branches in the city, not counting suburban branches, which I am not about to visit. The downtown branch is fine, but the outside atm doesn't have a deposit function, which can be a pain when I don't feel like going in before my day job. I did get a nifty little car tool set for opening an account, because I had a referral from my roommate, and she got something too, but I can't remember what...as if this makes a difference. To sum Corus Bank up, a very good bank if you live or work close by a branch.
