Whenever we come to Chicago we have to stop at Phoenix. The dim sum is simply awesome. We were there yesterday and the food was incredible as always. We enjoyed everything we had and we tried a variety of dishes. The shrimp dumplings are the best! The service can be spotty but we were seated near the door to one of the samller rooms and were able flag down any cart that appealed to us and usually they stopped every pass.

I was introduced to Moon Palace by my college roomates Chineese sister-in-law and have been going back ever since. The ambiance is great, as it is very well kept up. It is constantly busy, but not busy to the point that you can't find a seat. My husband swears by their orange chicken. I personally am a huge fan of their sweet and sour chicken. It is one of the few places that doesn't do oversized deep fried peices with too much grease. The chicken is cooked perfectly. I also love all of their soups. They are well prepared and truely are a meal in themself. My brother when he is in from new york will request to go here for the peking duck. He said it is the best he has ever had. The service is wonderful, I may not go for a few months but they still remember what I like on the menu.
I have tried other restaraunts in china town, and none of them compare. In addition, you tend to get more of the chicago crowd and not the touristy crowd.
This is a must eat!!!
Pros: great fresh food, ambiance, service
Cons: not close enough to home

Ummm....is it just me or does the first comment seem like it teeters on uneducated, ignorant, self-important (of the Americana variety) racism? I think so and it doesnt take an ivy wrapped diploma to sniff out the vermin in that paragraph. I'm sorry honey, but it sounds like you had already constructed an "authentic" experience in your tiny mind before you set (no, not a mistake, i'm assuming your bottom is a large object rather than an integrated part of the human body) your polyester painted junk down. Next time, sweetie, instead of "Chicago Cultured", why don't you simply aim for cultered sans the quotation marks.
PS -- The dim sum is great and the service superb! I highly recommend Won Kow......delicious!

the Dim Sum at this restaurant is the best I have tasted since leaving NYC and the wonderful restaurants there on Mott Street. The service is very good, but the food is divine. If you like Dim Sum and don't mind sharing a table with strangers then this is the place to go in Chicago.
Pros: Inexpensive, parking available
Cons: English not 1st lang.

Step into this restaurant and chances are you will see mostly Chinese families, enjoying traditional food and tea, and having a good time - the true mark of an authentic restaurant in the middle of Chinatown.
Having tried most of the restaurants in Chinatown, I am now a regular at Mountain View Chef for their excellent food. This place has the best dim sum in town, made fresh to order and served hot. The restaurant is clean, and tough the wait staff speak little English, they are always smiling, friendly and ready to help. The food is a bargain with the lunch special carry-out menu for $3! For breakfast or dim sum, try their shrimp dumplings (har gow), chicken feet, spare ribs or chicken sticky rice in lotus leaf. For Dinner, try their Spicy Salt and Pepper Silver Fish for the Appetizer, and for the entree, try their steamed shrimp stuffed with garlic or Chicken with Black Bean sauce on a sizzling platter - Enjoy!
P.S: I disagree with the other reviewer. Expect a true Chinatown experience here, if you want a fancy restaurant, go to a place in downtown. In all the 50+ times that I have been here, I never had a bad experience and the place is always clean and the staff courteous
Pros: Dimsum, Taste, Freshly Made Food, Authentic
Cons: Waiting staff are not fluent in English

The best place for dim sum on the north side. The upstairs is huge and often a little noisy, as befits a real Cantonese dim sum restaurant. Be sure to try the Chinese broccoli, the shrimp dumplings and the turnip cake (not sweet but savory and available from the mobile grill) and sticky rice under clear, glass bowls. Staff speaks English (generally). Just ask them to uncover whatever they're offering. It's better the larger the group.
Pros: Great food, Easy seating, Social dining
Cons: , Too many choices, Little ambience

I recently visited this resturant with a class of 11 students. I thought the food was okay going down. But I suddenly became gravely ill 4 hours after my meal. I was vomitting and had dyskensia. My friend from class also became very ill with the same symptoms and ended up in the ER. It was a party of 11, 5 students became ill with the same symptoms. I was in bed for two days. I do not recommend anyone to taste this resturant. I have ate in the past raw sushi and other ethnic foods and have never become sick. Beware this place should clean up there kicthen if they want to continue to serve others. I ate Lo mein shrimp this should have not made me sick, what are they serving?
