PROCEED WITH CAUTION. You will automatically be charged for the most expensive treatment if you don't request a cheaper option!!!
I went to this office today to have a cavity filled, based on a treatment plan Dr. Torres provided me in February. They filled two cavities, after I had complained about pain around another tooth. The procedure took much longer than it has ever taken other dentists to fill my cavities in the past. This caused me to ask Dr. Ana Torres why this process seemed so different and seemed to take much longer. She said this was a different kind of filling that matches the color of my tooth. I expressed concern, based on what other dentists have told me in the past, about those types of fillings not lasting as long and not being covered by insurance. Dr. Torres said that was no longer the case as of the last 10 or 15 years and that these fillings do last and are made of a different material now. She said the receptionists contacted my insurance company and informed her that they do cover the cost of these fillings.
Upon paying for the fillings, which cost me a total of $115 out of my pocket after insurance, I asked the receptionists why this was so expensive. They responded saying the white fillings are always more expensive. I asked her how much the fillings would have cost me out of pocket if I had gotten the standard silver fillings, and she said an amount just over $30. Clearly, my insurance company does not cover the cost of the white filling. I complained about not ever being given the option of choosing which kind of filling I wanted, and went on to express my frustration about how dishonest and irresponsible this is for their practice to automatically charge patients for the highest possible amount rather than informing patients of their options, and allowing them to make an informed decision about how to move forward with their treatment. They don’t even provide the options in a written format on the treatment plan they give to patients to determine how they will proceed with their treatment.
As I left the office today, I recalled a question they include on their questionnaire for new patients regarding whether the cost of dental treatment is a concern for the patient. This is something I made reference to as one of my concerns just two months ago when I became one of their patients. Why do they ask this question of their patients if they clearly refrain from making any effort to consider a patient’s financial situation when providing treatment? They informed me that a patient needs to request a silver filling in order to be given that option. How are patients supposed to know to make that request if they don’t openly and clearly state the type of filling they use and that insurance companies typically do not cover as much of the cost? I have seen a number of dentists in the past who have always told me silver fillings were standard and that I had the option of paying more if I wanted a filling that would match the color of my tooth.
This practice is an indication of Lincoln Park Dentistry having a greater interest in taking advantage of and making money off of their patients as opposed to allowing their patients to make informed decisions about their health.

I have been a patient at this dentistry for about 5.5 years now and am so glad I found them. They are always professional and organized. The dentists listen to what I have to say and the hygienists offer helpful information. I have seen Dr. Lewis for quiet some time but just recently switched to Dr. Casser because of her hours.
They book up quickly, so be sure to think in advance of when you need a check up. It will likely be at least four months out.
