Bourgeois Pig is a nice alternative to Starbucks and Caribou, if you're looking for a relaxing and cozy atmosphere. They're very close to the DePaul campus and the Fullerton el stop, and open late into the night. Their coffee is great, and they do a variety of hot beverages. It's a good place to go for a snack as well, since they have ice cream, wonderful cookies, and organic-y sandwiches. It's a nice change of pace!

I love the vibe in this place. They have conveniently named their sandwiches after famous authors or old literature. The upstairs has some comfortable seating where you can gossip with your friends, people watch or do some writing. I find the atmosphere to be conducive to my creativity, probably something to do with the Hemingway ham sandwich.... so i like bringing my journal there. Their coffee is decent too, so that is a plus. because the food is usually a little steep for my budget, I usually just order to coffee, so that i can have a reason to sit there for a while. Once again, great vibe!!!

This is a nice little cafe in Lincoln Park. It has a more homely feel than all the surrounding Starbucks. It is a nice little cafe, with lots of cozy seating. They have really great, hot drinks and lots of yummy snacks and sweets. I love going here on the weekends or in the evenings and grabbing a seat by the window. Its the perfect place to read, people watch, hang out with a friend, or even surf the web (they offer free wi-fi here!). Its a nice little cafe and a real fresh change from the typical Starbuck's Cafes.

I just saw the Pig on Rachel Ray's Tasty Travels and stopped in to see what all the fuss was about. It's funny, I've lived in the hood for 3 years but never stopped in until I saw the Pig on the show. So, I popped in for some coffee/lunch and was very impressed. The food was fresh and the coffee was dark - just the way I like it! Check this place out. Staff was friendly and the Pig was impressive. JT

This is an awesome little coffee house in the Lincoln Park area. The coffee and food here are fresh and this place sure beats your conventional Starbucks. The shop is nice and and very comfortable and they even have free wi-fi. The only thing that would make this place better would be if it was a little bigger and had a bit more seating space. Its a great place to go study in the evening or on the weekends. And try to get a seat by the windows; there's an awesome view.

This little neighborhood deli/coffeehouse/gathering spot is the perfect place to catch up with an old friend, or to study until your heart's content. The atmosphere is a bit studious; always something available to read or a game to play. The food is great if not a tad overpriced, and the staff is super friendly.

Bourgeois Pig is a favorite of students and neighborhood residents. The little cafe is right on Fullerton but seems to be hidden due to it's being set back from the street. In front of the building is a small outdoor seating area.
Inside there are tables on the first and second floors. The coffee is good. They also have specialty sodas. The food is very good. They have a large selection of sandwiches and also have quiche and muffins. They will also make you a made-to-order sandwich.
Bourgeois Pig is a great place to study, read a book, or visit with a friend.

Great independent place. They have a wide menu of good food including breakfast food like waffles, bagels, etc. and lunch or dinner food like sandwiches, wraps and quiche. They also have extensive desserts -it varies but includes, cheesecakes, cakes, tortes, and pies. They always have muffins and breads. They have a wide variety of great coffee and it is cheaper than Starbucks.
The building it's in is really cool - we were trying to guess if it originally had been a house or maybe apartments. The bathroom still has a claw-foot tub in it. There is seating inside on the main or second floor and outside too. Inside is airconditioned.
Great non-chain atmosphere at cheaper than Starbucks prices for coffee and reasonable food prices!

This cafe used to be a hangout for socialists and leftist thinkers apparently. Now it's a cozy cafe for college students and the bohemian set who want to lounge in plush sofas, sipping home-brewed coffee and perusing the many leftist tomes on the wood-paneled shelves.
The first floor looks like your typical mom-and-pop coffeehouse - a bit cramped, long lines waiting for coffe or for some of the hefty portions of mouthwatering hot sandwiches and cakes. Up the narrow staircase you'll find what looks like a dark library with long dark tables and couches. You can place your food order downstairs and someone will bring up your food to the library.
There seems to be a large variety of items on the chalkboard menu, which can get a bit cluttered and hard to read. Otherwise, this cafe is a refreshing revisit to the salon type of teatime discussion of the events of the day.
