This is a great deli to stop into for some fresh bagel or bagel sandwhiches. Its actually a restaurant, but I usually just stop in here to grab a good, to go lunch. They have great assortment of bagels and all fo them are made fresh on the premises every day. You can either get a bagel sandwhich, but I usually go for an onion bagel with the garlic and herbs cream cheese, its so good! Give this place a try for some good, fresh-baked food.

I love potato pancakes and they have my favorite. Crispy and potatoey but not ultra greasy. The best ever!! Their sandwiches are overflowing with meat, and sometimes I like that too. If you're a fan of big portions you will love this place. I think that the prices are fair. One of the best delis in Chicago. They also have a location inside the newly renovated Midway Airport that is just as good, try it before a flight, Yum!!!! The staff is nice, but not always the friendliest, so I can't say that they deserve a perfect rating.

Costello's is a sandwhich shop that is much like your standard Subway and Quizno's shops in theory. But this place is not a chain store and rather an independent little shop. Their selection of sandwhiches is pretty steller and the meatball sub sandwich especially rocks. What really makes this place stand out from your average sub shop is that they have great side options. They don't offer just that same old bag of chips, but options like pastas and fresh salads. its a great place to go for a good, fresh meal.

More
L'appetito's espresso drinks are nearly the best in the city; they blow Starbucks out of the water (i'm talking about real espresso, not sugar-laden "creations"). Plus, the selection of fresh Italian cookies will be enough to satisfy your sweet tooth ($8-9/pound).
A selection of cold drinks, sandwiches and other prepared foods, as well as deli meats and cheeses are also sold here. A great alternative to Food Life or other food courts if you are shopping on Michigan Ave.
On top of that, L'appetito sells imported coffee, pasta, candy and other items.
Never very busy, but service always seems a little "disgruntled."

The Lincoln Square area is one of my favorites in the city. Each time I come around here I try to make this old world style deli one of my stops. They are family owned and have been here for many years. They have a great variety of imported cheeses and meats. They have a small market; check out their preserves and jams which are first rate. They also prepare deli trays if you're having a party.

For a casual dinner, you can't beat Daily's. The usual suspects (burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries) are definitely there, but you can also get a decent veggie burger, individual pizzas, and tasy, filling salads.
The beer list is also good; my favorite is Young's Double Chocolate Stout--better than getting dessert. Almost.
The servers are attentive, quick and friendly. The music is a combination of mod, popular and a little punk.

This is a 100% ethnic store, they really only target their Polish customers. If you're not Polish then prepare yourself for a bit of a culture shock, but never complain. If you don't like it, then go somewhere else. This is not a one size fits all store.
If you're Polish, you will be delighted. There is no better selection or better prices anywhere else in Chicago. You won't mind the crowded store. There is a good selection of made in Poland groceries, and that's worth a trip from miles around.
The people who work there are not unfriendly, in fact they are extremely friendly. Unfortunately they, in general, do not speak English. So if you don't speak Polish, then you can't communicate, and some people may take it as being rude.
My advice is, adjust your expectations. This is like visiting a foreign country. If you don't like it, don't come here. But if you show respect and make an effort to adjust, you will be rewarded with the best quality Polish groceries you can buy in Chicago.

I'm writing this post from Dollop right now - I started coming here when I moved to the neighborhood last winter because it was really the only place to hang out and drink coffee. Good selection of teas (I'm a tea drinker myself) , great atmosphere - the front space is lively and social, and there's a "library" in the back (a converted apartment adjoining the space) where you can hang out to work or study. They're totally cool with people spending all day - there are quite a few folks who've made this place their office.

Visited Chicago...Stayed at The Drake...Ran the Lake. Found this place. I was impressed. L'appetito is sort of underneath Michigan ave, yet has an outdoor patio as well as a seating area inside the restaurant.
I had the Italian ice around 12 and a Vegetarian sandwich at about 4:22. Both were excellent and relatively inexpensive.
I probably will not fly to Chicago to eat at L'appetito, but if I lived there, I would probably be a regular.
