No one likes having to do city business, but I have found the Cook County offices extremely efficient considering how many people they have to process. When I lived in Los Angeles I'd have to wait hours and hours with my parents at the DMV - here it was only an hour to get in and out. Amazing!

Whuich runs from the Northwest edge of Chicago proper, snaking it's way north for 20 miles, ending at the Chicago Botani Garden in Glencoe. You also have the option of picking up another trail, the Green Bay Trail and going further.
The trail is paved, reasonably maintained and goes through some beautiful parks. I've seen deer at various times.
I've also used to trail for a portion of commuting to the office by bicycle occasionally.
This is one of the benefits of living around here.

No matter what time of night it is when you find a animal in need, AWL will open its doors to you. I love the fact that they have a vet on staff. But when you go to view the animals, it's almost like visiting someone in prison. First you have to fill out an application and be approved before sitting in the waiting area for a staff member to walk back with you. Although they are tight, I think they have reasonable fees and do great work.

When my little daughter found a stray cat, I had to do some research to find a local shelter. We found this place and I was very pleased with it. They had a good facility here and all the animals at this shelter seemd to be well cared for and taken care of. They also gave us the option of picking out any animal to take home with us for our own pet. Though I did not opt for that option at that time, I think I may go back soon to see if I can get a new pet cat from this place!

I thought it would be fun to try to summarize my experience of my home town in 100 words or so. Impossible, of course.
The smelly onions reference is to the meaning of the Native American word that Chicago is based upon.
This town has great jazz, great food, and a great spirit. The lakefront is wonderful. Lake Shore Drive is one of the most beautiful urban roads I have ever found.
But I have been driven out by the corruption. They hand out tickets to raise funds, and their need to pay for Millenium park and all the patronage has gotten out of control.
So if you come to visit or even more so if you live there, watch your behind. Obey the laws or the local gendarmes will find a way to reach in your pocket too.
