Whenever we come to Chicago we have to stop at Phoenix. The dim sum is simply awesome. We were there yesterday and the food was incredible as always. We enjoyed everything we had and we tried a variety of dishes. The shrimp dumplings are the best! The service can be spotty but we were seated near the door to one of the samller rooms and were able flag down any cart that appealed to us and usually they stopped every pass.

PF Chang's is a trendy Chinese restaurant. The food and presentation are good. I recommend the chicken lettuce wraps and the vegetable spring rolls. The entrees are average. The service is typically good. The server makes a sauce tailored to your tastes. Free parking in this area is difficult, however, there are plenty of parking garages nearby.

Even the fanciest restaurants in town just can’t beat the presentation, taste and appeal of the food at Joy Yee’s Noodles. Everything looked so good, I've seen folks take pictures before they devour the tasty meal! For Appetizers, try their Crab Rangoon, Shrimp in a Blanket, or their Lemon Grass Chicken Wings. For the Entree, I love their Fried Red Snapper in Tamarind Sauce, Korean BBQ Ribs, Chicken Shrimp Rice in a Pineapple Boat, or their Soft shell crab over rice in a Korean stone bowl. And while you are there, try their amazing selection of fresh fruit drinks. Their food is a visual and gastronomic delight - take your camera along!
Pros: Best asian food hands down, appeal, unbeatable price!
Cons: none

I must say i really appreciate Yen's. It's not inventive, pioneering cuisine by any means. But it is chinese food done exceedingly well. The flavors are balanced, and the kitchen obviously takes great pride in what they do. Today there is so, so much bad chinese food out there, that it is truly refreshing to find a place like Yen's which does what it does great! This is an excellent restaurant for basic chinese food- it is WAY BETTER THAN CHEN'S on clark street.
Pros: excellent pott stickers, won ton soup, kung pao chicken
Cons: none

Can't beat this place for chinese food on the north side. I'm reading some of these reviews and they must not know what they are talking about. The egg rools and crab rangoon are best in town. Atmosphere isn't anything to write home about, but one goes there for the food not trendy decor.
Pros: Parking

I've been with some friends here a couple times and i love their dishes. Order the Casino, it's not on the menu but you won't regret it. Even their new Fire Fried Sushi, is great. The only thing I didn't like was the Vegetable Tempura, the sauce wasn't that good, but everything else was great. As for martini's, try the GQ, it's yummy.
Pros: Casino dish
Cons: Parking, park at McDonald's for $10 if you can't find street parking

to the lady who had the horrible experience with the hostesses, i am in a room with a group of people and read your rant to them, and no one can believe someone as whiny as you exists - what happened to you is not a big deal whatsoever, a simple mistake and the fact that you had write a negative review when you normally don't write reviews is simply pathetic.
i love dees since the first time i tried it, i think the szechuan beef is the one of the best dishes i ever had anywhere. one of the reviewers recommended the sesame shrimp - never had it, but i am looking forward to trying it tonight.
Pros: szechuan beef and all food in general i really think its the best chinese in chicago, so fresh and flavorful
Cons: not best atmosphere

My wife and I have been to several dim sum restuarants in Chicago and San Francisco and we're generally very picky about the quality of food we get at restaurants, especially since we cook all our own food from scratch at home. We were extremely happy with the food at Shiu Wah. It's the best dim sum I've had so far. The food, service, cleanliness was far better than another well known dim sum place a few doors down. We went on a Sunday around Noon and we waited about 25 minutes for a table for 2. Larger groups (5-8 people) were waiting for 25-40 minutes it seemed like. Waiting was a litlte confusing since we had to flag down a particular waitress who had a scrap of paper she was holding with some numbers on it. Apparently that was enough for her to keep track. She actually seemed to keep pretty good track of everyone, but we made sure we still stood inside the restaurant within view of her while waiting, just to make sure we weren't forgotten. The food was well worth the wait. And the dishes (teapot, cups, silverware, plates) were all clean (unlike another dim sum place we went to nearby which had stained, cheap looking teapots, cheap chopsticks, and sweaty unkept staff). Some of the food seemed to take a little longer than I expected, but it worked out because we ordered about 5 different dishes, so we weren't hungry for very long anyway. I didn't know they ask what type of tea you'd like, so I was pleasantly surprised by that. We got the Jasmine tea and it went great with our food.
We saved a little bit of our appetite to sample more dim sum at another restaurant nearby. We were so disappointed (like I mentioned above) that we couldn't wait to leave that place. They had handmade colored pieces of paper taped all around the whole restuarant, and it seemed very amateurish and cheap.
We plan on going back to Shui Wah several times each year, so I hope our experiences continue to be as outstanding as the first time!
Pros: Great tasting food, good prices
Cons: Noisy one-room dining area, service can be hit-or-miss

I consider myself some what of a sushi connoisseur and Shine definitely hits the nail on the head for fresh, consistently delicious authentic sushi. Sure...their wait staff isn't Japanese but their sushi chefs are- duh.
Shine is the perfect date spot, girls night out, or place for dinner on a fri or sat night that you don't feel like going to the club/bar because there is always a lively, classy, chic, non pretentious atmosphere there.
The prices are the same as ANY sushi restaurant in Chicago the only difference is that you get ambiance, class, comfort, style and excellent cuisine.
Thanks Shine- I love your outdoor patio, candle lit dinners, delivery, etc.
Pros: Ambience, sushi, our waitor was cute & funny. Fun for 20 & 30 somethings
