Wikstrom's Gourmet Foods is located in the Swedish neighborhood of Andersonville. The store has been in business since the 1970's. They offer deli meats and cheeses, condiments, and many packaged items. Recently they began selling on the internet. Therr service and friendliness are remarkable. On a recent order, they hand delivered the goods, calling first to arrange a convenient time. Currently they do not process payment on the website but upon placing a website order, they will call you to take credit card information over the phone.

The pizza here is actually pretty good. Its hard to believe by the decor and the way this place is presented, but it is quite enjoyable.
The pizza here will cost you more than Pizza Hut, but it will taste a lot better too. They have a thin, crispy crust topped with some good gooey cheese. I usually add olives to their thin crust pizza.
The service here is okay. They could be a little bit quicker, but it really is worth waiting for the food here.

To say that pizza and pasta make me happy would be a gross understatement. I LOVE 'em! I really like this place too. It's small (about 6 booths and a couple tables, but they do have a larger banquet/dining area if you need it) and they make some great food. I loved their thin crust pizza (black olives and ground beef for me, and it was crispy and tasty), and the mostaccioli was good with a very tasty sauce. The atmosphere is very casual and down to earth and the food is authentic Italian cooking all the way. Oh, and I think they have one of the best jukeboxes around!

My wife and I went here tonight for a carryout because the restaurant had been featured on one of the television stations in town.
From start to finish, which was me walking out after getting tired of waiting for our food, this was the worst restaurant service experience I can remember.
The first sign of trouble was that the phone line was busy for about 15 minutes. I decided to go in and get a carry out menu, which I helped myself to after waiting for a few minutes without any acknowledgement.
From the menu and the write-up from the TV stations web site, we decided to order 4 of the appetizer-like Turkish Pizza, lamacum, and the turkish pie with mozzarella and sausage (I forget the name).
I waiting in line for about 10 minutes and left the order. The hostess said that it would take about 15 minutes.
During the wait to make the order I noticed that the wait staff (two including the hostess) seemed insufficient for the size of restaurant. I saw people refilling their own water glasses, attempting unsuccessfully to get the attention of the wait staff and even go to the register to get paid.
Well, I figured that any restaurant would struggle with publicity and an influx of business, so I thought nothing of it.
15 minutes later, I was back. I waited another 5 minutes and the woman brought out the lamacum and told me the price, which included the lamacum but not the pie. I asked where the pie was and she didn't remember the pie order and asked if I could wait for it. She said yes.
I also asked if I could use the coupon on the menu (which had expired 12-05) and she said it was expired. I said that it was the only menu they had. She said there would be a new menu next week.
20 minutes later, with no pie, and after I had followed up a couple of times, I decided to leave. I came to the conclusion that I wasn't going to get a pie. Plus, my lamacums had likely gotten cold.
During this time, I had observed more diners walking up to the kitchen to get their orders taken, more diners coming to the kitchen to get their water refilled, people waiting in the entrance without acknowledgement for minutes, even though there were tables available.
The wait staff were pleasant and they were trying, but there weren't enough of them to manege the amount of diners.
I did not have any food, so I cannot speak to that. The people eating did seem to enjoy it. The TV critic certainly liked it.
The wait staff seemed pleasant enough and conversations seemed cordial between the help and some of the diners, including the police officer who came in for food while I was waiting.
Still, my experience is that they are not sufficiently staffed or organized to handle the business that was there on Saturday, September 16, 2006.
I won't go back.

Love this place. The decor is very modern, with lots of stainless steel and blue accents. There is a cool sushi bar that you can sit at, with a gorgeous mosaic tile backsplash. Their sushi is very fresh, and they have some really creative special sushi rolls that are always really tempting. Some have very uncharacteristic ingredients, such as pine nuts. They also have some interesting mixed drinks that'll knock you flat, including a sake martini. This is a great option for a birthday or anniversary, but its also come as you are. You'll see people dressed in jeans and as well as some that are more dressy. Come as you are, as long as you're stylish.

I've attended quite a few events here, from political fund raisers to weddings and New Years Eve doings and have always been very satisfied with the quality of service. The food has always been good and plentiful with rather quick delivery for such a big place. It has always been very clean also, better than most banquet halls in the area.

I just heard on the radio yesterday that this great Chicago institution is closing in Feburary '06. That is so sad; another fixture of Chicago bites the dust.
This is a wonderful German-American restaurant that I have been going to since I was a kid. Its downtown location made it convenient for lunch while visiting the Art Institute or anything else downtown, or dinner before the theatre.
It has real career waiters, walnut walls, classic moderately priced meals. It is one of those reliable old places that always produced a good meal at a good price with decent service.
I remember going to the bar when I turned old enough to drink and happily quaffing the house dark beer.
Go quick!
