My boyfriend and I went to National 27 for dinner last night...we were a little apprehensive because we saw some bad reviews...but decided to try it anyways. We both love tapas, and me being Hispanic I am very picky! But we loved this place! The grilled lamb tacos and smoked chicken empanadas were amazing. We also got the mojito flight.....best mojitos in the city..hands down! For an entree we selected the Roasted Organic Chicken and Grilled Smoked Pork Tenderloin Adobado....they were delicious! The service was great and very helpful..they even started us off with a mini appetizer on the house! We will definitely come back here!
Pros: Great food, amazing drinks

We went to Cafe Bolero early on a Saturday evening. The atmosphere was very charming. I liked the open kitchen. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. When she found out that this was our first time there, she spent additional time making some recommendations from the menu. The combination platter of tapas was a wonderful option to sample of some of there offerings. Nicely presented with a variety of tantalizing flavors. The roast pork and vegetarian stuffed peppers were flavorful and ample. The total bill came to under $50 for two with one cocktail each. Not bad for a city location. Parking was a little inconvenient, but not a serious problem.
Pros: Reasonable prices, delicious food
Cons: parking

I went to Carnivale for my birthday with 3 of my friends, and I am so happy we did! The space is gorgeous, with a lot of interesting photography all over, including in the bathroom. Service was great, from the moment we walked in, and our waiter was very helpful in explaining the menu. I especially liked that they buy from local farmers. Their signature raspberry mojito is worth the hype, and the caipairinhas and margaritas are very good as well. We had the guacamole to start, which was a very generous serving, with a really nice amount of spice, and it was very fresh. I had the pernil for my main course, which is shredded pork with a rum glaze, and it was fantastic! It was served with rice and beans and fried plantains, which were also excellent. It can be VERY difficult to find well-made plantains in Chicago, but Carnivale does it. The portions were very generous, as well, which is often not the case in some upscale restaurants. They even brought out a birthday dessert for me, which was tasty, but not as tasty as everything else. I didn't really care at that point, though, since I was stuffed already. I would definitely recommend making reservations here, though, because it was pretty busy, even on a rainy Thursday night.
Pros: service, decor, food, drinks
Cons: dessert

This is the second time I've been to Chicago, and both times Citysearch has delivered a great Caribbean food restaurant. I took a group of twelve hungry hombres looking for some jerked chicken and Calypso delivered bigtime. The jerked wing appetizers could have been a little hotter for my taste, but they had a great flavor, and the conch & shrimp fritters were awesome. We sipped on our Calypso Ritas, mojitos, and Red Stripe beer, while waiting for the second course. The jerked ribs, blackened tilapia, and Ropa Vieja were all perfect. Perfect meal before going out to listen to some great Chicago blues. Thumbs up on the food, service, prices, and the location. I'll be back the next time I'm in the windy city.
Pros: Great Food, Service, Drinks, and Location

Very inventive, delicious dishes on a small menu, and the drinks are equally inventive and tastey! The number of entrees is limited, and becomes even more so if you're a vegetarian, but all the food itself is excellent. Very good date spot with nice atmosphere, though a tad crowded.

I stumbled upon this place one night while coming home from work. What a great find, the food is a unique blend of Mexican and Caribbean fusion and has the perfect amount of spices. The margaritas are what will bring me back again and again. The margarita choices are enough to keep you occupied, but the fresh taste and flavors blew me away. Some of the friendliest staff and ownership that I have ever been witness to. Do NOT miss out on this gem in the city, it is well worth it.
Pros: Best margarita in town, the patio
Cons: Hard to get in on the weekends

The food is very good!!! I've been there three times and every time was a good experience. Food very tasty and large portions. You definitely get your money's worth. I would highly recommend. As a matter of fact, I'm recommending that my company use them for catering for our company's summer picnic.
The atmosphere is nice and welcoming and so are the people that work there. I will definitely be returning!
Pros: Real tasty and large portions, prompt service and an extensive smoothie juice bar.
Cons: Wish is was larger. But they say they are expanding to accomodate more people.
