I now live in Virgina but I come home to Chicago, I MUST get some popcorn! I don't mind the line, I have been eating this stuff since I was 10 years old. I bring some back with me to VA and always have to hide a little stash for myself because my co-workers go crazy over it, not to mention my husband and son who eat theirs and come looking for more. The greasy bag is part of the ambiance of the place!

After hearing so much about this store...I had to try it out. So I spent 20 minutes in line just to try some of their butter popcorn. And I must say it was really good. The lines are always long...they come out of the store. It can be a pain when its cold out. But the popcorn is nice, fresh and hot right out of the machine. I always get some extra to take home with me!

I've purchased popcorn for gifts a couple of times from Garrett, and I don't understand what the big deal is. The lines are horribly long at the Michigan Avenue location - around the holidays I once waited in line for over an hour! (I didn't have a choice... I had to bring the gift to a party that night.) People will wait that long and just buy a little one-serving bag, which I think is crazy! The cheese popcorn is a little greasy and VERY cheesy, but the caramel corn is good. Try the caramel corn with nuts mixed in .... big bucks, but people love it! Try the locations in the Loop to save yourself a little time.

I don't really see what all the fuss is about this popcorn shop. I went here once and had the popcorn. And though it wasn't bad, there really wasn't anything so great about it that would make me go back and stand in that insane line (and that in the freezing winter cold too). Perhaps if the popcorn was more easily accessible, I would be more motivated to try to get it. But since it apparently isn't, I'll pass.

Really Garrett Popcorn ALWAYS has a line. It always amazes me, but if you have tasted their popcorn you'll understand why. It's delcious, tastey and comes in different flavors. The tins make great gifts (especially for out of towners). This is a great place to stop on your walk down Michigan Ave.

The popcorn is so buttery, that it almost seeps through the wax paper. My favorite is the mix of the butter, cheese and caramel.

A coworker of mine insisted we stop by Garrett's while we were walking down Magnificent Mile... she said it's TO DIE FOR. It was a Saturday, so the line was about a 35 minute wait, but man, when I got that bag of caramel popcorn - it made it all worth it. They make all the popcorn fresh, and I swear they melt straight caramel on the stuff. It was so sticky sweet, it made my teeth stick together. They also have cheese, butter, and plain popcorn too. They make gift tins that you can take home, and you can also order online for shipping. One suggestion - if you are going, try to hit it up on a weeknight. They are open until 9:30, and they aren't too busy then. Weekends are an outrageous wait.

Garrett Popcorn really does have great popcorn. It is no wonder why during the summertime the tourists line up down the block for their popcorn. The popcorn comes in several different flavors and tastes delicious. The stores are small, just like how I would image a popcorn place to be like. Definitely a place to stop whether you are a local or a tourist.

There's a Chicago divide in style, but it can all be bridged by getting the mix which includes carmel, cheese, and plain. Garrett has plenty of tins for those out-of-towners and delivery service as well. Look out for the lines on weekends and at Christmas; you'll need a lot of patience. But it's all worth it once you pop that corn in your mouth. Spend some time celebrity siting while you wait...isn't that Kathy Griffin ordering popcorn balls?
