I spoke with CJM about fixing some holes in my drywall. Not only was his price a lot less then others he did the job within 2 days and it looks great. I am also having them give me a quote on re-doing my entire bathroom

It's hard to get everything you'd want in a regional rail system, and Metra is no exception. Despite that, I have to say that the Metra system is one of the more practical regional rail systems that I've seen.
First, the negatives. It's a highly commuter-oriented system. If you're not headed downtown, forget it. Because it is built on existing rail lines, it is generally impractical to transfer from one train to another, even where the lines cross, and due to multiple endpoints in the downtown area, it won't be practical to transfer there either. Further, trains are timed according to commuter demand, and you might find yourself waiting an hour (or even much more) for a train if your transit needs don't meet the expected rider profile.
That said, Metra offers a reasonably clean, relatively fast, and completely stress-free way to get into the Chicago Loop area from relatively far away; trains are available as far north as Kenosha, WI (probably about 50 miles). Seating is plentiful, prices are reasonable, riders tend to be professionals, and the experience is fairly enjoyable. Anyone looking to avoid the driving stress of Chicago downtown driving should look at Metra and Amtrak options.

I had a plugged up bathtub drain....water would not go down at all. Had to use a bucket to get water out. I tried Northwest Plumbers and they did a great job. Came on time at 10am....I called only two hours earlier too.
Total cost was a little over $200, but it was worked on for a little over an hour. He told me it normally would cost about $130, but since my tub is a very old model (over50/60 years old) that it took more work and time than usual. I personally thought it was a good job overall.
Pros: same day service.

After having a nightmare counter installation experience with A American Custom Flooring in Chicago, we hired Home Depot to complete the project. We worked with Dawn who was knowledgeable, sympathetic, and helpful. Home Depot contracted with Gerali Custom Design for our Corian installation, and they were fantastic! They had great customer service by returning our calls promptly, showing up to appointments on time, and following through on their promises. When they said the counter would be installed within 10 days after they measured & templated our condo, they met their own deadline! The person who measured and the two people who attended the installation were polite, respectful and careful with our belongings. We were very pleased. We also hired Home Depot to hook up our sink & faucet. That didn't go so well. Home Depot contracted with Plumb-In-Time Plumbing Services. Although I made the appointment for the hook up a full week ahead of time and although they said I was "all set," Plumb-In-Time did not show up for their appointment. When I called to see where they were because my husband was sitting at home waiting for them while he missed work, the girl was confused. She put me on hold; and when she came back, she told me that there was some confusion and that they weren't coming. After not having water in my kitchen for 7 weeks because of the nightmare with A American Custom Flooring, I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I canceled the order with Plumb-In-Time, called Home Depot who kindly refunded the money, and hired a maintenance guy from my high rise to install the sink & faucet for me. He took care of it that very day, and he charged much less money. I recommend Home Depot because they handled the situation well, but I don't recommend Plumb-In-Time unless you have time to waste and a lot of patience.
Pros: Great customer service & Corian partnership with Gerali Custom Design
Cons: Bad choice of a partnership with Plumb-In-Time Plumbing Services

Before we remodelled our basement we needed to ensure that it was waterproof so nothing would be ruined. This company gave us a great price offer that we took them up on. They checked and sealed all areas that could become wet and made sure that the whole basement was sealed off from moisture. The workers were very efficient in completing their work.
PROS: Great price offer and good work.

My air conditioning went out in the middle of a summer, on a Friday night. I called David Brothers the next morning, and there were great. They did not charge me weekend rates, and they were there the same day. The prices were great, and I recieved fast friendy service, done right. If your cooler or heater breaks done, give them a call.

My A/C unit stopped working for no reason 2 weeks ago, after calling another company in Chicago and waiting for them to come out, which they did 2 days later and gave me an outrageous estimate I called Midtown Mechanical. They guys that showed up were polite and within the 4 hour time window they promised. Their estimate was almost half of what the other company's was. I went with Midtown's estimate, they came out the following day, installed my new unit and even checked my furnance! They were great!

Stopped by their lot on Halsted and paid $30 for 1/8 of a face cord. We put it into the car ourselves. The staff there was very friendly and gave us free access to a huge pile of bark for kindling. Seemed really expensive to me, but also really easy and accessible.
Pros: easy access, friendly people
Cons: seems expensive
