This is a very nice little bookstore on Broadway. Everytime I walk by I am tempted to go in because just the window boasts such a great selection of books.
They have great kids books especially and though I am a lot older now I love to browse through them and reminisce about those books that I used to read all the time when I was a kid.
The selection of books here is great and this bookstore has a really friendly atmosphere. You will really love this little bookstore.

This place has a very wide variety to chose from. The prices are good and the people are easy to help you find what you are looking for. I wouldn't go in here with any young and impressionable children though because I always find at least one book out that has a half naked person on it. Other than that I love this place.

This is an amazing bookstore. It has huge travel sections, childrens, literature and sale sections (great- deals here) but what I love best is that the staff, a group of devoted readers, writes reviews of their favorite books, which makes hunting and picking out a book much easier. The staff oviously love books, so they can point out that perfect book (they also are dog friendly and always give my dog a biscuit).
This is, in my opinion, the best independent bookstore in Chicago, if not in the entire mid-west. It is great fun to wander through and find that really special book that you would not find in other places and then sit in one of the neat lakeview cafes and read the afternoon away.
Pros: great staff, wide selection, good sale books

Unabridged Books is located on Broadway in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood.
One of my favorite components of this bookstore is they have a section where they have books at a reduced prices. Books that were once $20.00 or $30.00 are now priced anywhere between $4.00 and $10.00. I have found countless books in this section that have been outstanding books to read and I've been able to purchase them at a reasonable price. The other aspect of their sale section is they do a great job of placing books in this area that are perhaps on best seller lists and well known, as well as quality literature that perhaps hasn't had a significant amount of publicity. As I mentioned if you are looking to locate books that are not overwhelmingly popular part are great finds, this is the area to look.
I enjoy he diversity of this bookstore. Located right in Boystown, there are plenty of books on gay issues and writers. There is also a wonderful women's studies area that has a wide variety of books on women's issues. In addition, being located just across the street from a local elementary school there is a super children's section that is a great place to get children's gifts.
I like the combination this bookstore of books of all genres that suit so many different audiences. There are a few chairs around the store but there are this great window seats that are perfect for curling up and exploring a new book you've come across.

Otherwise, this is a very cool bookstore. All new booksnot used or remaindered. They have an excellent selection of literature and non-fiction books and an extensive collection of gay-themed literature. The background music is very good (for instance, the incredible Emmylou Harris) and you can browse at your leisure without anyone bothering you. Their selection of science fiction and horror books is limited, however, and they really do need to add some chairs.
PROS: Laidback atmosphere, good background music.
CONS: No chairs.

If you live in Wrigleyville/Lakeview and believe in supporting locally owned businesses, then you can't afford to miss Unabridged Books. This longtime Lakeview business has a terrific selection of fiction and non-fiction books (including a sizable gay and lesbian selection). Unabridged Books has a great reputation in the literary community, and well-known authors frequently make it a stop on their book tours for readings and signings. I particularly appreciate the handwritten notecards taped to the shelves adjacent to many books, describing books that a particular staff member recommends. Don't be deceived by the relatively small storefront appearance -- the selection also extends into the basement.

Sometimes the organization is a bit lacking, but if you don't enjoy spending a few extra minutes browsing, you will almost always be pleasantly surprised with something you find here.
