Well I definitely did not take advantage of all the beer here because I just drank Miller Lite all night but the ambiance is awesome! A great crowd goes here to just chill and hang out after work or later on at night. The bartenders are always friendly and if you get restless you can play pool in the back of the bar.

While Map Room, with its extensive beer offerings and beer education, is still a great place to hang out solo or with friends, it isn't ALWAYS a great place to hang out. This mostly occurs on weekends when young twentysomethings, or those pretending to be young twentysomethings, converge at this bar in their chunky square glasses and blazers over layered shirts...you know, the ones who are trying really hard to be different and fit in at the same time. I'm not saying this happens all the time; what I am saying is that there is no predicting.
The bathrooms are small, but generally okay in the cleanliness department.
Map Room also seems to be a good place to meet people, either platonically or romantically.

This is my favorite place for beer in Chicago. They have a fantastic selection of imports, and domestic microbrews. They have tons of Belgian beers on tap, for reasonable (i.e., moderately expensive compared to normal beers) prices. On Mondays, they have a $1 off Belgians special, which makes the prices very good. They have a knowledgeable staff and the clientele is a nice mix of people. It can get crowded, but I've always been able to find a place to sit. Sometimes there's free food.

This neighborhood bar has a huge selection of beers from around the world. Located in Bucktown this is a great neighborhood place. In keeping with the map and travel theme, there is a free international buffet on Tuesday nights for those who purchase beers (I'm not sure how many you need to purchase to get a free meal). Every week a different country is represented and a restaurant that serves that country's cuisine caters the buffet.

There are so many different beers on the menu, 26 total on tap. They even offer a beer school periodically.
It can get very crowded and be annoyingly loud (music and drunk people) on the weekends, however, which is disappointing because this is the type of place you want to drink AND carry on a conversation without going hoarse.

The Map Room is practically heaven for beer aficionados. More important than their really cool "National Geographic-esque" theming, the Map Room has the best beer selection in the city. The atmosphere is quite mellow, and very relaxing for an afternoon or evening brew. The Map Room also hosts tasting nights, when they celebrate a country with featured beer and locally-catered ethnic foods. Sounds good to me!

I love to go here after work on occassion and check out their great beer selection. They have a huge selection to choose from. I also really like the way this place is decorated. Its a very cool and casual, yet sophisticated setting. But that's not all. They have free wi-fi here for all their customers! It's an awesome place to come to with your laptop and either work or relax while you are enjoying on of their great glasses a beer. Don't miss out on this great find!

The Map Room is a fantastic beer bar. Don't come in and try to order a martini, you just might get shot (if not by the bartender, then by an irritated and justified fellow customer). During the day, it's a quiet sanctuary for beer snobs city wide to bring their laptops and enjoy something delicious while booting up. In the evening, things get a little more lively, but the focus is still on the beer. If you're a fan of the hops, do make a stop here the next time you're in Chicago.

At the Map Room, they have beers that even the most seasoned beer connoisseur will be stumped by. The atmosphere is warm but often crowded, but still fantastic. They have more beers on tap than I have seen at any bar, upwards of fifteen at a time, and more than 200 bottles at any given time, as well. Highly, highly recommended.
