Jimmy's really needs no review. If you live in Hyde Park, you know it's the only good bar in the neighborhood. If you don't live in Hyde Park, it's a trek (Red or Green line to the 55 bus.) Really the place to meet friends for beer and fries, or have a quiet drink -- the bar is mostly straight guys like me unwinding after a long week, and you're out of luck if you're looking to find a mate: this is not a single's bar by a long shot (although if you're just looking for conversation, people are friendly.)
Getting served (contrary to grumpy people reviewing here) is not hard -- if it's crowded you'll have the usual problems but they're not understaffed.
Pros: friendly bartenders, cheap beer and food for a grad student's budget
Cons: not a place to meet your soulmate (even if you're looking for Hannah Arendt)

Coq d'Or most certainly has the best martini in town. You might think the price is a little steep but it's actually 1.5 martinis.
The bartender is quite knowledgeable on vodkas and just makes a killer Martini. And the bites are good too.
Atmosphere is a little stodgy and grandpa-ey, but it's worth it for the drink.
Pros: awesome martini
Cons: stodgy, not hip

Forget those trendy, pretentious bars/lounges. For all of you that are tired of 'the scene' like I am this is the place for you! This is my new favorite spot! It is a very relaxed atmosphere, people always look like they are having fun every time Im there. It was surprisingly upscale while not taking itself too seriously. We had some appetizers that were also surprisingly great for bar food. Martinis are wonderful, a variety of tastes for every palate. Bottom line This is my new favorite spot!

The service here always remembers me. I really like this bar, it might be my favorite place to drink and have real conversations with people. Good-looking staff. There arent any goofy clovers over anything, its seems like a more classy irish pub then you usually see in this town. The wiatresses are cool.

Not to big, not to small. Great music, live music during the week, reggae, punk, acoustic sounds, great DJ on the weekends. Hits me between a small bar and a downtown club, minus the dumb people that sit at a club and think they look cool but there not having any fun. And I think we all know what I'm talkin about. Okay, so Tonic Room rocks.

The pizza is to die for. It tastes suspiciously like Geno's East. The crust is made of corn meal and the sausage is succulent and spicy. It is seasoned to perfection. The only draw back is the tendency to be heavy handed with the tomato sauce. Be prepared to wait. An hour and fifteen minutes is the norm. It is definitely worth the wait.

Hanging out at the North End, at the top of the Halsted strip is definately worth the walk north.
I found lots of hot men for eye candy, and was able to play darts and pool till my heart was content.
There was very little attitude or annoying thumping bass, this bar has a very neighborhood feel to it.
There are TONS of flat screen Plasmas on every wall, with any sport event you would want to see.
And if there is something you would want to see all I had to do is ask one of the handsome bartenders if he could find it.
this was a definate: 'Must go back to bar!'
Pros: Lots of jock type men for all to see, and most show thier goodies :)
Cons: no smokeing in bar

Though I love the South Loop area, it lacks good old neighborhood watering holes. Wasbash Tap fills this void. No need to get dressed up or pay an arm and a leg for a beer. Bar Tenders are always friendly and the waitresses serve you with a smile. For a casual night out on your own or with friends, you can count on this place to welcome you.
