My friend and I were both first-timers to Sheffield's after work on a random weekday. We had some drinks, ordered some food - my burger and fries were both super tasty, especially for bar food! - and bottom line, it was a great little hangout. It was a bit of a quiet night, but you could tell the place gets rockin'. The staff was very nice, guys and girls alike. We both left saying we'll be back!
Pros: Friendly staff, unpretentious atmosphere, good food
Cons: It was cold so we couldn't experience the patio...not that that's a true "con" :)

The Map Room is an essential bar if you're at all interested in craft beer. They have an exhaustive selection of both Belgians and domestics, and some other beers from around the world. I've discovered a lot of tasty brews there (my current fave is the Surly Brewing Company from Minnesota) that you literally can't find anywhere else in the city. Their selection is different enough from the Hopleaf that it's worth checking out both places, frequently. The only thing I will say is that it can get a little crowded/noisy on weekend evenings. However, they are also open during the day and often have free food lying around which is AMAZING. This is another place that has vastly improved in my estimation since the smoking ban.

I am not the clubbin' type. I really enjoyed myself. From the mixed crowd on down to the music. It is a great place to unwind rather you go on a Wednesday (most liked day) or a Friday. Get on out there and enjoy yourself.
Cons: Parking is hell. Due to the downtown atmosphere you may want to pay the $10 for valet.

A wine for every taste - and even wines for those without taste.
Vast wine selection, largest by-the-glass list in the city. It's great that their wine store is right next door, super easy to pick up a bottle of whatever it is you just enjoyed.
Pros: Knowledgeable servers & bartenders

I was here last Saturday and I absolutely loved it! We arrived around 9:30 pm and not much was going on but after about 2 hours the place was packed! The bartenders are total sweethearts and very attentive. The prices are somewhat high but I've seen drinks more expensive. The mechanical steer is awesome and dancing on the bar looks quite fun. It's a great place to go to and just let yourself loose. I totally recommend!
Pros: Fun place, nice staff, very loose....
Cons: Really crowded, Cover charge

Love the place. Have a great time every time. The bartender Craig is a hottie (OUCH). The staff is cool, the food is great, and the place is clean. I hate a dirty bar. Never had a bad time their, only the next morning after the great martinis(Maybe a few to many, but worth $5).

I saw this place on Check Please. I went to check it out with my brother, sister and nephews. The kids loved the burgers. The mac-n-cheese is to die for. I will definately be back for the food, and the bloody mary's were good too. I highly recommend this resturant.

A friend of mine took me to this great restaurant (supper club). The prices are just right with specials almost every night. If you ask anyone what the best dish is they will tell you the sloppy joe's with tater tots. I know this is something your mom made for you when you were a kid, but oh man is it great. Everything from appetizers, soups, to burgers are great as well. Oh yeah, if you want to watch a game there are plenty of tv's and the bar serves great mixed drinks and has a great beer and wine selection. This is a must when in the Wikerpark neighborhood.

Named, presumably, for its size, the Mathbox is a place to go early if you want to sit. All the seats are at the bar (during the summer there are tables outdoors, but the interior is awesome and it's dangerous drinking a manhatten from a tilting, wobbly, table) in this tiny, wedge-shaped place.
Now I will make a bold claim:
The Matchbox is the best place for cocktails in the city of Chicago.
Admittedly, there are many swanky joints serving martinis that I've never had the cash or the shoes or the desire to try out; but I'll bet you that the Matchbox will give them a run for their money.
Their liquor selection is outstanding. I rarely have the opportunity to sit at a bar and wear out the bartender's ear asking "what's that?" "what's that?" "what's that?" Luckily, the bartenders here are outstanding and friendly and, when it isn't really busy, happy to chat.
The care that they put into their drinks is wonderful. A manhatten comes with black cherries that appear to be jarred by hand. A margharita comes with a dusting of powdered sugar and a long, knotted, lime peel sitting across the top of the glass.
The first time we went there, we decided to splurge. We each had 3 cocktails ("we" denoting 2 people, for a total of 6 cocktails), with call liquors. Each time, we got the whole contents of the shaker. After three, we gritted our teeth and asked for the check, expecting to stay in for the rest of the week. The bill came to a whopping... $36? We were stunned.
