I have been an REI customer for 30 years, and have shopped at sporting goods stores all over the planet.
True, if you are looking for cheap, army-surplus type goods here, you won't find 'em, and true if you are a gearhead looking for only the rarest and most esoteric specialty equipment, you won't find it here.
They do have very good, well-tested equipment, outdoor clothing and supplies. On busy weekends you will have to wait for service, esp. where you need a fit like boots or skis.
The staff is generally friendly and knowlegable and willing to refer you to another store in town if they don't have what you need. Overall, a first-class operation.

I have been shopping at Gregg's for years and the selection and service never cease to amaze me. I recently stopped by to purchase a new pair of cycling shoes. The woman who assisted me was extremely helpful and patient. I am very picky with my shoes and she humored my interest in trying on every shoe in the store. Gregg's had multiple performance oriented shoes in my size, but I went with the SIDI's. While there I found some awesome looking jerseys (purchased 2) and the parts guys helped me pick up some new lube. Gregg's is surely bigger than the store located in my neighborhood, but they have earned my business over the years with good service, great selection and friendly staffers.

This is the flagship store in downtown Seattle. I could spend hours and hours here. They have everything you need - for anything you might need to do outdoors. Like a previous reviewer, I always leave here ready to go hiking, biking, sky-diving - whatever! Someday I'm going to try the famous rock wall in the entrance, but for now I'm content to watch and be amazed. Definitely check out the twice yearly garage sales!

I have been a member for almost a month now and am VERY satisfied. It tends to get a little crowded at times like any gym, but never to the point you have to wait for anything. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I have seen some of the personal trainers that seem a little over-the-top to me (different strokes for different folks I suppose) However, I am getting personal training with TOMMY and it's the best decision I ever could have made. He really knows what he is doing and makes you feel comfortable. I have tried several different gyms and have not got the wonderful training or results like I am getting at Pure Fitness. If you are thinking of joining I HIGHLY reccoment Tommy to sign up with and train with!
Pros: Tommy for a personal trainer, well equipped, BEST deal around!
Cons: Parking lot often full IF you drive.

I recently purchased a bike from Greggs. I came in on a busy Sunday and I was helped immediately. They were able to get me into the perfect bike at the price I wanted. I also had a problem with my bike a few months later and they repaired it at no charge. Great Service and staff.
Pros: Great Customer Service

I've heard from several people that SJ&J was THE place to go if you needed running shoes. I walked in and was greeted by staff immediately. Ty listened to my workout goals and chose several shoes for me. He was very disarming and helpful, he made me feel right at ease with all my questions and concerns. I left with an awesome pair of running shoes and will shop there again and tell everyone I know how helpful the staff is there. Thanks, Ty!
Pros: great selection, helpful staff

I have been looking for a gym for quite sometime, shopping for gyms has not been a great experience. When I went to Pure Fitness I was impressed with how friendly and attentive the staff was. Lana (the General Manger) was a breath of fresh air. I not only signed up because they had all the equiptment I needed and more, but because Derek didn't just "sell" me, he helped me understand what i needed to do for myself. He told me goals need to be ardently desired and vividly imagined.
A candy store of equipment leads to never a dull workout... assuming you have a sense or adventure. The staff at westlake pure fitness have seperated themselves among their competitors brethren. Details to a clean environment along with a plethera of amazing trainers(aha... finally someone who would rather make sure I see results than be concerned about how many credit cards I have in my wallet) keeps their members happy. These guys "get it!"

I admit it; my bike sat in the rain all winter. The place I bought it wanted 2 weeks before I could get it in, then another two weeks for a tuneup.
I called Recycled Cycles; "bring it on in. Well, yes, today."
I showed up "let's see. You need a new cable. I can bang this out in ten minutes."
Any bike shop can give you some attitude because bike enthusiasts are a cliquish bunch. At R.C. I got the feeling they wanted to recruit, instead of exclude.
Thanks for the quick and professional work and the uncomplicated labor and parts rates !
