In the relatively recent past I have seen great, intimate concerts for free by:

I have also seen a few bad sets.
The beauty is that all of the concerts are free, so if the band is terrible, it is easy to leave because you don't feel like you have to get your money's worth.
Highly recommended.

Teatro Zinzanni is a zany, outlandish experience complete with delicious food. Tom Douglas designed the menus for Teatro, which explains why the food is so dang good. They cater to both meat-eaters and vegetarians, which I was thankful for during my vegetarian phase.
The entire evening is well choreographed, complete with embarrasing diners and mid-air acrobatics. Their drinks are out of this world; I've never had a better lemon drop.
It's expensive, so treat yourself!

They have a great selection of CDs at reasonable prices - I got the latest Sleater-Kinney there last year for $10.99. Occasionally they have amazing sales too. You can also come to Sonic Boom for vinyl, band posters, fliers for shows, and music publications.

The best part about the place is that everyone who works there is a working DJ - and they have people from almost every genre of music. House, breaks, techno, trance, jungle, hip-hop, downtempo, and so on is all represented.
Competitive prices -- plus a fairly good selection of equipment as well to help you progress.

This place is awesome! Great decor, quick service at the bar and everyone is very laid back. I used to live a block away and I would go here all the time. They have tons of great shows and they used to host YO SON hip-hop on Sunday nights- YO SON hasn't been the same since it left Chop Suey. But if you've been hearing a lot about this place you should probably just come on by and check it out. Great prices to get in.

My first experience with Everyday Music was at their gigantic Sandy Boulevard store in Portland. This store in Seattle is not quite as big (although they recently almost doubled their floor space) but the selection seems just as good. If you still like to actually own physical CDs then this is a great place to shop. They group new and used discs together, so it is easy to see what is available from your favorite artists, and the list of artists in the catalog is deep. This is my favorite place in Seattle to buy music.

This is a great place to get new and used CDs for really cheap. If you go directly in the back of the store there is a wall of CDs for .99. It takes awhile to find ones that are worth purchasing but its worth it. You can listen to any CD before buying it which helps.
