Solas is an Irish Pub on Boylston Street, where the stuffy corporate atmosphere usually threatens any kind of variety among establishments. Not so with Solas. It is attached to the Lenox Hotel, but don't feel you have to be well dressed to enjoy some great Guinness or Smithwick's. Their spinach and artichoke dip is out of this world, with a dash of nutmeg on their pita chips. It tastes so much better than it sounds. Burgers and pub food is also good, and the Irish barstaff is pleasant. To go out for a smoke, they asked me to pay my tab...I guess they were worried that the guy without a suit might skip out on $12. Can't blame them.

This place can be rather cramped, especially since the ceiling is low and there's only one small bar in front. Immediately head upstairs where there's more seating and a second bar that doesn't tend to get as hammered. There's sometimes a live band, and the atmosphere is always full of energy. If you're on a bar or pub crawl in Back Bay, then you must stop here.
