If you live in Charlotte, and you haven't heard of this place then you've probably been under a rock or spending WAY too much time at the Bank (like I have). My friends have been telling me about this place for months, but this past weekend was my first time in.
It is honestly one of the coolest retail concepts I have ever seen. The design is second to none. It's very hip and modern. Basically, it's like the Apple Store for wine buyers. The prices are amazing too. When I first walked in I expected it to be expensive (based on the look and feel), but was ecstatic when I saw that almost all of the wines visible were under $25-$30. They also took me to the back room for more expensive bottles when I said that I needed something for my father's birthday. They have some total Cherries back there as well. I loved it.
I tasted wines of their tasting machines (you HAVE to see it to believe it) and ended up buying a baker's dozen -- 12 for me and 1 for my Dad.
I have nothing left to say other than you just have to see and experience this place to believe it. I'll be back soon.
Pros: Prices, Selection, Service, "Cool" Factor
Cons: That I had to eventually leave and go to dinner.

Ooh-La-Las formerly La-Tea-Das.
I have been there a few times with friends recently and each time was very impressed. "A Victorian feel. Fresh food. Great service. The cook even came out to greet us and see if everything was to our liking. The food was so fresh that I had to let her know. The perfect place to go with friends for tea, sandwiches, quiche, scones, fruit salad etc..." I loved it so much I returned with my little girl whom they treated like royalty filling her tea pot with lemonade and gave her dress up clothes to wear for her tea time with mommy. What a great experience and wonderful new owners.
Pros: great service, prices and fresh food. Oh yea, Great Tea too
Cons: wish it was closer to my home

The Wine Shoppe at Foxcroft has a new location in Rivergate [The Wine Shoppe at Rivergate!] and you can see from the parking lot that it's a place you want to hang out! Warm lighting, lava orange walls, a cozy loft space upstairs and a super modern wine bar can all be checked out as you cruise by in your car! Go inside! Order the flourless chocolate cake! Of course the wine and coffee are delicious too! But this was the best chocolate cake I've eaten in my 27 years on this planet!
I am a healthy eater so when I indulge, I expect it to be worth it! And, it was! The chocolate cake has a rich cheesecake-like consistency and arrives on a saucer with rich whipped cream, a cappucino drizzle sauce [ask for extra sauce to dip forkfulls of cake in!] and a saucy strawberry!
The Wine Shoppe at Rivergate should be your next stop this weekend!!!!!
Pros: At the new Rivergate location: friendly engaging staff, awesome interior [orange walls, coffeeshop vibe] great wines and amazing desserts!

Pasta & Provisions is a locally owned and operated Italian food store in Eastover. Their homemade sauces and pastas are fabulous. Their market contains hard-to-find items like imported parma ham. They're a little pricey for standard things, but they do offer a case discount on wine, tomatoes, etc. Very friendly, helpful staff.
