Cafe Driade is a very chill place with good coffee, good authentic beer, and good wine. The best thing about it is its location, in the woods. You can sit outside on a nice day. The atmosphere is very European in my opinion so if you're looking to getaway from the fast-paced Starbucks, check out Driade... if you can find it... ha just kidding

When friends come to town, I usually take them to the Brewery because it's one of my favorite places to eat and it's nice to introduce someone to beer brewed right here in Chapel Hill. With a great permanent menu, there's something for everyone but their seasonal menu is carefully thought out and keeps things interest so there's always something new. My favorite dishes are the BBQ plate b/c it's just really, really good Eastern-style NC BBQ and the Jambalaya, but you've got to taste one of their burgers as well. The atmosphere is great for dinner, but also for just stopping by after classes or work and having a drink. Behind their bar, you can see the actual brewery which adds to the atmosphere and reminds you that there will likely be a new beer on tap in the coming weeks (try the Oktoberfest!). I've never had a problem with the service there and their bartenders and servers are knowledgeable and friendly.
I've watched many a UNC game there and love that they have a big projection of the game. They have a lot of special events going on like shuttles to UNC games and bands in the parking lot (more so in Pittsboro) which gives it a very community-oriented kind of vibe. A definite plus for a local business. It's well-loved by many in the Triangle area and has amazing beer, there's a variety, but my favorite is the Flagship IPA, which is always on tap as far as I know. Two thumbs way, way up.
Note: I usually go to the Chapel Hill location, but their location in Pittsboro is very cool because they have a much larger brewery there and is separated from the bar by only a glass wall.
Pros: Beer, Seasonal and Permanent Food Menus, Location
Cons: Parking is sometimes an issue, but they have a small lot in the back and there is a pay lot less than a block away.

My family and I live in Wake Forest, and often drive the 45-55 minutes to get to Pepper's because its by far the best in Raleigh, Durham,. or Chapel Hill.
The only one that comes close is Randy's Pizza in Durham.
We love Peppers!
Pros: Best Pizza in Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill
Cons: Far, But Worth the Drive

We discovered this restaurant gem through a Google search. My husband and I decided to try Thai Palace because of the recommendations of others on this site. I had never tasted Thai food but wanted to try the dish, Pad Thai, because I had seen a "Throwdown" with Bobby Flay on the Food Network and it was for Pad Thai. The Thai Palace made the most delicious Pad Thai! Their hot green tea was also wonderful and my husband really enjoyed his curried chicken. We were given MORE than enough food to eat and my husband is a big eater. We left, KNOWING that we would return. The atmosphere in the dining room is very beautiful and is deceptive from the outside. One would never know what beauty awaited them until they ventured inside. The staff was very friendly and attentive! We will return for our Anniversary. We really look forward to discovering new dishes on our next visit.
Pros: Food, atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff
Cons: price. A little more than we usually spend on a regular basis.

Chinese 35 has the best Chinese food in Chapel Hill, hands down. Their buffet is huge, with a ton of vegetarian options. The sit-in buffet can be a little pricey, but you can get take-out buffet for really cheap. The service is also very friendly and hospitable. Be sure to try the spring rolls, they're amazing!

Why would anyone go to Macaroni Grill or Olive Garden when there's 411 West? I've never had a bad meal there and have probably gone 7-8 times. My parents don't like a ton of restaurants but we almost always go here when they are in town because they love it. In terms of service, they've actually improved. I've sometimes had to wait awhile on Saturday night to get a table but it's great that they now take reservations. They also offer free valet parking so you don't have to try to find a spot in their small lot. A group of eight of us each ordered different items and we all enjoyed what we got. I don't know if you can go wrong with what you order here. Good food, with good ambiance (it sometimes can get a little noisy) with prices that are pretty reasonable.
Pros: Tasty food
Cons: Sometimes it can take awhile to get food, especially dessert

Excellent food and reasonably priced. The last time I ate at Weathervane (more than 10 years ago,) I was so disappointed, I swore that I would never return. A friend told me that there was a different chef now and convinced me to give it another shot. What a difference! Appetisers are great - I could make a meal of them. The bread is to die for, and the shrimp and grits are better than Crooks Corner. The Osso Bucco - well, it's the closest thing to heaven on this earth. Atmosphere is o.k. Could use some flowers on tables or some more aesthetics. Service is spotty. My waiter was great, but I heard complaints from the table beside me.
Pros: outstanding seasonal food, reasonably priced
Cons: service is spotty

I was really impressed with Lantern - though the ambience wasn't as elegant as comparable DC restaurants, the food more than made up for it. The dumplings were excellent, the chicken delicious but not as delicious as the farm fresh long beans that accompanied it. Our favorite was the pork lettuce wraps - absolutely wonderful. The drink menu was exciting in a town of $2.99 miller lites - I recommend the dark and stormy (rum and ginger beer). We did not sit at the bar, but we did peek in and we plan to go there next time - its dark and romantic, a complete contrast to the bright, stark restaurant. We didn't save room for dessert, but next we'll try!
