Allen and Son's has delicious fresh made BBQ. It is a little off the beaten path, but once you visit you won't mind the drive. All of the sides are excellent, my favorite being fried okra. Make sure you save room for dessert (however do avoid the cobblers). The pies are all freshly made and can be topped with homemade vanilla ice cream. My favorite is the iced cream cheese pound cake served warm with a scoop of vanilla!

Allen and Son's Pit Cooked BARBQ is the best barbecue, hands down. They roast their pigs slowly over hardwoods Lexington style to get the best flavor. The potato salad and coleslaw are great fixins too. The restaurant offers artery hardening home made desserts to finish off your meal. The atmosphere isn't the ritz, but the food can't be beat.

I love Allen and Son Pit Cooked BBQ. They've got really great BBQ, obviously, in generous portions. The "regular" size sandwich is more than I can handle, but my husband always gets the large which looks to me like about 3 normal sized sandwiches put together.
What I love more than their BBQ, though, is their sides (fried okra and hushpuppies for me, please!) and desserts (these change frequently, i believe--just ask the waitress and she'll rattle off about a dozen desserts.)
They have another location, too--on 15-501, between Chapel Hill and Pittsboro--if that's closer to you. I've never been to that one, but it always seems to be crowded at lunch time!

North Carolina takes its Barbecue very, very seriously. But Allen & Son, nestled in the woods on the outskirts of Chapel Hill, is a very serious Barbecue joint. This down home cookery is BBQ at its finest - moist, succulent pulled pork, crispy hushpuppies, topped off with an impressive selection of fresh cobblers for dessert. The BBQ is out of this world, and the desserts worth saving room for. When looking for BBQ in the triangle, definitely make the trip out to Allen & Son's. It's worth the drive!

We had heard good things about Allen & Son so we headed down there for lunch one day. We were a little overdressed in our khaki shorts and tshirts. The people there were very very nice. It was not the most clean place I've eaten but I guess most of the effort is put into the food which was very good. It's rather small, so if someone is smoking in there and that kind of thing bothers you, then you are outta luck.
We will eat there again, probably carry out.
