P.S. Just wanted to say my server, Jordan, was outstanding :-)

Pizza sauce was way too acidic for my taste. Frankly, I've had better frozen pizzas. Service was okay, it only took 30 minutes for carryout, but I wish I'd saved my money.

I'm originally from Morris, IL, and love Maria's Pizza, it's the best I've eaten. I was hoping for the same here, but alas, no such luck.

Papa Dels has been a fixture for the 30 years I've lived in Champaign, but it's been on a downward slide for more than a decade. Undercooked pizza, long waits, no reservations, nickel and dime charges for everything, unbelievably poor service, and a manager (son of the owner) who's an SOB of the first water.

I've finally learned my lesson regarding this joint. Whenever I go to PDs I am ambivalent at best, torqued at worst. This place and it's pizza are so overrated it's unbelievable. I don't know if it's b/c C-U has few independent pizza places that PDs always get accolades or what. But, please save your money.
I ordered (yet again and for the last time) a stuffed pizza w/green peppers and mushrooms. I dissected this soggy on the bottom/dry on the top monstrosity trying to find them and was extremely disappointed. They have the audacity to charge top dollar for a few strips of green pepper and a few mushrooms. Where are the toppings/fillings?!? The crust on the bottom was soggy and almost uncooked. The sauce on the top--what little they used--was crusty and dry.
Plus, for laughs, check out their menu. They charge for everything!! Pepperoncini, extra sauce, fork/knife/spoon packets!! Who ever heard of such a thing? Ridiculous. They even charged me once for a tiny little container--approx. 1 ounce-- of crappy wood dust Kraft parmesan cheese. It wasn't even real Parmigiano-Reggiano and they charged $1.00 for it. Grrr.
Do yourself and your wallet a favor--SKIP THIS PLACE!! Take a road trip to Lou Malnati's in Chicago, pick up a few and bake them yourself. Or, have them shipped to you.
Papa Del's may have been good at one time. Unfortunately, that was probably well before the 15 years that I have been going there in search of their terrific pizza--to no avail. The owners of Papa Del's are simply trying to bilk people by providing a poor product that does not live up to the glowing reviews of a few people who don't know any better. I'm sure there are also a few people who believe the Edsel is a superior vehicle and that buggy whip companies are still a solid investment. Please don't get caught up in the hype of a declining business resting on their tenuous laurels.

There are in fact three pizza places in the Central Illinois area that are fantastic. Papa Del's is one of them and it is great. They have a thick Pizza that is to die for that can only be matched by Ginos on Rush street in Chicago. We made the drive from Decatur to Champaign at least 8 to 10 times a year to enjoy this outstanding taste treat.
Pros: The service is always great and the parking is right outside the door
Cons: To enjoy this treat you are going to have to waitsometimes up to an hour. The best way to get around this problem is to call in your order and then time yourself to arrive about 15min before it is ready

Unquestionably the absolute best deep-dish pizza this side of Chicago. True, it's a little pricey compared to other pizza joints in Champaign, a true college town (of course it's still cheaper than what you'd expect to pay in the big city). True, you can go down the street and get a large pizza for $6 including tax, but nothing comes close to Papa Del's quality. DELICIOUS! Comparable to the big Chicago deep-dish names like Pizzaria Uno, Due, My Pi, Giordanos, etc. Highly recommended.
Pros: Best Pizza, Convenient Location, They Deliver!
Cons: Slightly Pricey, Rowdy College Kids, Kinda Slow (45 min)

Papa Dels always serves the most delicious pizza. There is always tons of sauce, cheese and toppings on it. The only downside is it generally takes an hour for delivery. :(

Yummy! Don't expect to have your deep dish ready in a jiffy. This "zah" is a work of art and takes time. However... after a piece or two of the mile high treat, most will decide to box the rest for later. Keeps extremely well in the freezer; tastes even better the next day direct from the fridge!
Pros: Delicious, Excellent Value
Cons: Takes Awhile, Scenery
