Vertical Plains used to share a space with a gymnastics club and was located on Springfield, behind the Central Tap. When it was there, it was an excellent gym with a variety of different pitches and holds. It moved a few years ago to the Lifelines location, and since then it's become a far less interesting place to climb. The bouldering wall has a much steeper overhang, the toproping section is shorter, there cave isn't as interesting and the whole climbing space is shoved into one corner of the building, almost as an afterthought.
There's still some interesting people who climb there, and some interesting routes set up, but overall you might be better off driving to Bloomington.

I am not so sure if it is still open. Yesterday I walked by this store and it didn't look open. The original owner was a Japanese guy and he was good. Then I heard the new owner was a Korean woman from Red hair. People said she was good too but I didn't like her. I went to her twice and she always talked to her friends when cutting my hair. There was nothing wrong with talking to people but her major focus was talking instead of cutting so the result was poor.

This hair salon is fancy and has a very fancy businesscard. Yet I don't really like it. I had a Japanese American cut my hair. I think her skill was not bad but she didn't give me a hair that matched my face. I have a complicated face ( heavy eyebrows, uneven skin tone, and I don't do makeup) and she gave me a complicated hairstyle! And the price was relatively expensive ($20-$30) so I never go there again.

I have gone to Gene's Barbershop most of my life. When I first started going, Gene was terrific. He would cut your hair just the way you wanted. Over time, Gene had many partners in the shop. As the partners changed, so did Gene. He seemed more interested in getting a hair cut done, rather than getting it done right. It is not uncommon for Gene to not have your hair even. He is also very rough. One of his former partners, Andy, recenlty opened his own shop. I have now changed barbershops.

More
Okay I have never tanned in my life. I think the idea of paying someone to potentially give you skin cancer is ridiculous. But tanning salons exist and people actually seem to use them. Classic Tan is a chain of tanning salons in the Champaign-Urbana area. The addresses and numbers are below. I have no idea what they are actually like on the inside, this review is just to complain about their horrible advertising campaign. They have produced a number of radio ads each about 5 minutes long where they talk to supposed customers about why they tan. They are played in the morning on my radio station, so I have to wake up and listen to someone who dislikes their pasty white skin, usually every 20 minutes. Or how tanning helps seasonal depression disorder, and doesn't cause skin cancer, and how tanning three times a week is perfectly reasonable. But the worst ad is the most recent with some middle-aged woman talking about how brown fat is better looking than white fat, like she was a turkey or something. I would never consider paying for a tan anyway, but these ads make me want to picket their salons and encourage others to tan at less annoying establishments. Please tell anyone you know who works at Classic Tan that this campaign is the worst idea ever.
