Ten Thousand Villages really has outdone themselves in customer appreciation (They send you a special discount on your birthday and welcome you with a smile each time), and their store always has new crafts coming in from skilled craftspeople from poor third world countries--Ten Thousand Villages provides these people with adequate water and housing.
The ambience of the store is really well done- with native music playing in the background and the setting and placing of gifts makes it feel like you're visiting a slice of life unseen before.
There are a variety of gifts, from jewelry, toys for kids, hand-made soaps, to fair-trade coffee and hand-made baskets and containers. I definitely recommend this store, you're sure to find a refreshingly unique gift here for anyone in the family :)

This store is a fun place to get a one of a kind gift. I have been in several times and enjoyed looking at all the neat things and reading the stories about how many of the items are created. The problem I have is that I rarely find anything I would want for myself. I do like to buy christmas items here such as ornaments and garland because they are so colorful and festive. But since the items are in limited quantities/colors, I rarely find something that I like and would use/want in my home that is the right color or style for my house. Which is sad because I would love to buy more from this store.
PROS: Great store with a great purpose, good gift ideas
CONS: limited styles/colors of items

This place is a great place to buy gifts because you're not only finding what you need but supporting a great cause! They work with a charity to help teach women in third world countries how to make artisan crafts and then the company pays a living wage (not slave wages) for the crafts made. You'll have to pay a little more than normal but it's worth it when you know where the money's going!

10,000 Villages is a store selling imported goods from all over the world. It's actually a charity that teaches women around the globe to do crafts and arts and sells them at a decent price to pay the women a liveable wage. Great store for a great cause! You will pay a little more for the unique items but knowing the money goes to charity is worth it.
