Mettler Center is a great gym for those new to fitness and/or want a comfortable, clean and friendly place to work out. They have 3 group fitness studios and lots of classes to chose from (I counted over 70 a week). The Tot Spot has a great staff and kids love it. Their RD, Melissa Smith, has worked miracles with many friends who needed to lose weight. I like that you don't have to wait for machines and all the staff knows my name.

I joined the YMCA in hopes of losing weight. I have a 18 month old little boy and he is very shy and clingy to mommy so a good childcare while I workout is very important and he loves the staff at this Y. I love the staff at this Y. They are nice and very helpful with all of my needs. They offer great programs for my children and myself. Because I am a member there are classes I can take for free, my kids get into the programs at a reasonable price and we all have a great time. This particular gym has an abundance of equipment for working out so I never have to wait no matter what time I come in. The only down fall to the Y for me is that they close around 9-10 and sometimes I would like to go even later. I would like to be able to go whenever I wanted to.

Refinery building has luxury gym downstairs. it's very huge and big. the wall has huge size mirror s which make the gym look even bigger. Every treadmills has its own DVD/CD player which I can watch or listen to movie and music while I'm working ou. The gym has a lot of work-out stuff, small beverage shop and shower room and locker room. refinery residence can get a discount price for membership. The town is very quiet and nice. you might be surprise of the big size of the gym.

Vertical Plains used to share a space with a gymnastics club and was located on Springfield, behind the Central Tap. When it was there, it was an excellent gym with a variety of different pitches and holds. It moved a few years ago to the Lifelines location, and since then it's become a far less interesting place to climb. The bouldering wall has a much steeper overhang, the toproping section is shorter, there cave isn't as interesting and the whole climbing space is shoved into one corner of the building, almost as an afterthought.
There's still some interesting people who climb there, and some interesting routes set up, but overall you might be better off driving to Bloomington.
