Stacy's Monroe's Salon and Spa, located on Redwood Road just north of Castro Valley Boulevard, has been a favorite of local women for years. The salon boasts a modern and hip decor, a wide variety of stylists to suit any person's tastes, and plenty of services to make this a one stop shop. I've had my hair cut there a few times, and have always been pleased by the results. Prices are good, too -- though they depend on the stylist. Be aware that parking in their lot can be tight (as there are also a few other businesses in the same building).

Pyzano's has become award winning and notable because of Tony who has won numerous competitions for his dough throwing ability. The pizza is good but not excellent. They also have salads and side dishes which are good. Pyzano's offer delivery , take-out, and often have fund raisers for the local schools. The atmoshpere is causal and the booths and tables are comfortable.

Dougs serves up hearty dishes. Best for Breakfast basics. Lunch menu is ordinary and basic and solid. Some items can be pricey if you compare them to the other Mom and Pop diners in Castro Valley.
A few years back they took on the dinner crowd, but when that failed they came back pushing their breakfast menu and are doing well. This is a favorite senior hang out and families on the weekend. It closes at 3pm.
The high light is Dougs Omelets, some may be pricey and not well presented but they are good and filling. The plate size pancakes are well made. I had a Spinach Omelet that was OK - it just didn't sit right on the plate. For lunch I tried the Rubin Sandwich on rye a bit dry but I enjoyed it and the service is fast and kind.
It is crowded on the weekends and Sunday, and parking is OK - but on high shopping days the market next door can fill the lot.

This sushi restaurant has the best variety of interesting, unusual and delicious rolls I've tasted! If they don't have it on the menu, they'll whip it up for you, just tell them the ingredients you want. The place is tiny and very difficult to get a table on a Friday or Saturday evening, so be sure and make reservations if going on one of these nights. Be adventurous and try the specials, they're always delicious!

This place is great. It really reminds me of Italia. The wine selection is good, the prices are right, the antipasti are great (SEAFOOD SALAD), friendly staff. I love it.
I took the advice of a fellow city-searcher, and ordered the lasagna. It was out of this world. I have been back twice since craving it.

My friends & I came here after peewee golfing at Golfland. Castro Valley doesn't have a lot of restaurants to choose from, so I was surprised when someone recommended this place. I'm usually quite skeptical of thai food because my favorite Thai restaurant is Little Home in pleasanton and I consider it the best Thai food around. Our group ordered quite a variety of dishes to share family style. We tried the yellow curry with chicken, pad thai, basil garlic fried rice, peanut sauce with spinach and pork green beans. The portions seemed a bit small for the price, but overall, the food was quite good. My favorite was probably the pad thai and the fried rice. The curry was a bit on the watery side. Lime Leaf is probably my 2nd choice after Little Home.
Pros: Good location, good food
Cons: Portions of food seem small in some cases

Featuring two 18-hole courses, the Golden Tee Golfland on Castro Valley Boulevard is a fun place to bring the kids, or show off your mad mini-golf skills to your friends. It costs $7.50 per adult to play one course. The courses are well maintained, and the place is pretty clean.
For groups, they offer a large room in the middle of the park which is closed in and sheltered, yet is made up mostly of windows so that it feels like you're outside. It's a perfect place to host a child's birthday party. They can even provide pizza and supplies (plates, napkins, etc) for your group.
They also have a decent indoor arcade on the premises, for those that want to extend their fun. It isn't an impressive selection, but it's decent.
Also, they have a 2 for the price of 1 family night on Mondays after 6 pm.

For a moderately priced eating establishment that falls into a more cafeteria style category than restaurant, Rigatoni's is a good option for a quick pasta and salad meal.
Usually I'm able to split a salad and pasta dish with a friend, often with leftovers. I've tried a variety of dishes and enjoyed each kind. Dishes are available with a variety of sauces ranging from tomato to (quite a bit more fattening but tasty) creamy garlic or pesto types. Accessible to everyone at a side bar are several bread choices along with butter or olive oil and balsamic.
If you're expecting to find Mario Batali cooking behind the counter or be reminded of that cute little cafe you visited in Italy, you'll likely be disappointed. It is what it is--a moderately priced quick and tasty salad, bread, and pasta meal.
At my local Rigatoni's I've never experienced bad service, but like any other chain there will be some bumps in the system.
All in all, recommended if you're a fan of the less personally prepared Italian meal.
