We are a family of five, with children ranging in age from 15 to 7, and Jimmy and his wife have always made sure that they pay special attention to the children, and greet us personally from the first time we came in.
Pros: Food, service
Cons: Sometimes they are short staffed, but still manage to pull off great service

We love Japanese steak house and sushi. We've tried several in the area and elsewhere. Maneki Neko's food is good but their service is lousy. Every time we've gone there or called they have been unhelpful bordering on downright rude. It takes forever to get served a glass of water, let alone your actual meal. It has never been very busy when we've eaten there, so this would not account for the very slow service. Maneki Neko's food is good but other Japanese steak houses are comparable but with much better service. Their prices are comparable or more expensive than other Japanese steak houses in the area. Overall, the food just isn't good enough to put up with so much bad attitude, especially when there are many other great alternatives in the area.
Pros: Good sushi, decent hibachi
Cons: Unfriendly, slow service, poor ambience,

Maneki Neko is the best north side restaurant for sushi, hands-down. Jimmy is the only sushi chef they have, and he works his tail off. They also have the large family-style grills where the chef prepares meal right in front of you. But it's the sushi that draws in the crowds. The calamari tempura roll is one of my favorites, the Maneki Neko and Indy 500 rolls are also superb. If you want something with kick, order the godzilla roll ... huge pieces of tuna and salmon with diced fresh jalapenos, rice and a nori wrapper. The ahi tuna appetizer is infinitely better than others I've had in town, and much cheaper too. Sushi in general isn't cheap .... come on, all that fresh fish in a land-locked state? But the freshness, quality and prices here can't be beat. Just don't tell anyone.

This is a good place to get some tasty, fresh sushi on this side of town. We've gone several times for takeout and always been happy with the freshness and quality of the rolls and sashimi ordered. It's a bit on the pricey side, but it's also the only place nearby I would order sushi from. The atmosphere is relaxing and attractive and would be a nice experience I'm sure - I've only ordered takout.
PROS: fresh sushi, nice variety
CONS: expensive, location poor
