I have banked here for several years now and although I don’t live in the immediate area, I still use this bank as a savings account. The employees are always friendly, though service can be slow at times. When I had to change my name after getting married, they worked with me to get it done without having to appear in person because as I said, I currently live out of the area. It is a nice bank to bank with and they are part of a large network of ATM’s that do not charge a fee.

Houlihan's is about all that Carbondale has in terms of "casual upscale" dining. The atmosphere is classy and fun. They have a sports bar area with flat screen tvs on one end. The food is tasty, but kind of generic. I would recommend the Asian wings, though. The burgers are also good. If I lived in a bigger city that had a wider variety of restaurants, I would probably never eat here. It's a good place for what it is, though. Nice for celebration dinners.

Panera is a bakery/restaurant that serves sandwiches, soups, and salads. The ingredients are fresh and high quality and the sauces and dressings they use are very tasty. My favorites include the Greek Salad, Black Bean Soup, Portobello and Mushroom Panini, and Garden Veggie Sandwich. They have a wide choice of sides and if you ask, they also have baked chips. From the bakery side, I've only tried the bagels and the muffins, but those are both very good.

Campus Comics is a very conveniently located comic book store. They have a good selection of the normal superhero comics. They also have some anime and graphic novels. They also have a large selection of used comics and some comic book related toys. It's worth it to stop in the store of you are close by.

If you want to go thrifting, this is the best place. The radio station thrift store gets picked over by Tropicana, and the other stores are more popular with the college crowd. This place is kind of dirty and seedy, but there are some great finds if you look. Definitely check out the 80s rack and don't forget downstairs for $1 shoes.

Mike's Music sells new and used musical instruments and offers musical lessons. I bought a guitar here and never had any problems with it. I also took drum lessons. I've also sold several guitars and amps here. They always deal fairly with you and give a pretty good price for selling things. I'd definitely recommend this place to my friends.

Trust me, there are not many good import shops in the southern Illinois region, and this place is a pretty safe bet. The repair shop in the back is filled with reliable but moderatly priced service technitions that did a pretty good paint job on my Accord. This is an area referred to as a "college town" but suprisingly not a huge selection of less expensive vehicles.

I've been pretty happy with the things I've had printed at CopyMax. All of the workers are competent with the equipment, the prices are the cheapest in town and the customer service is head and shoulders above the Printing Plant or Staples. The color laser gives pretty true color, also.

Pags is a great place to get a pizza. Their crust is definitely the best in town; the thick and chewy and thin and crispy are equally good. They also have a great spaghetti special on Tuesday nights. You can get a complete meal for $4. Pags also has a nice selection of beers on tap and very reasonable prices.
