The young woman who seated us fumbled as she scanned for our names, as I had "booked" the 8:00 PM reservation by phone leaving a message, after an automated answering system requested I do so earlier that morning. This wasn't just another dinner it really was much more than that. It was payment due in full, to a friend who was more than kind enough to graciously forgive me for mucking up his mega macho truck's door. I offered to pay for the damage and he said most kindly "how about a decadent lobster dinner?" Who was I to argue? You can imagine the horror on my face when the hostess fumbled through her reservation book and couldn't find ours. It appeared as if I'd made the whole thing up. I was mortified. She seated us, bumbling through the whole process and when he ordered beer she went on to nervously explain how the chiller wasn't working properly. Again I was mortified. Things just weren't working out. I wanted him to be epicurean amazed when took the first bite of that lobster. The meal arrived promptly. The waitress, most agreeable to please as she presented it. We each began the meal with soup and salads. It comes with a lovely bed of carrots, cooked perfectly and your choice of potatoes or rice. The lobster was neither over, or under-cooked. Melt-in-your-mouth perfection. I'd seen an advert for another restaurant after I booked this one which was 2 lobster meals for $99 so Sids was right in line. The real meat of it is the ability for the chef to prepare what he/she does so well, perfection-on-a- plate without the foo-foo cuisine trimmings. It was worth every penny spent. As for the rest...remember, not every night goes perfectly and we all have a bad day. The hostess did her best to correct the situation and was warm and friendly as she struggled to make everything right. For that fact and with kudos to the Chef I give this restaurant 4 stars and say... keep working on the ambiance and get your chillers working.

I find Sid's Seafood to be one of the last good seafood restaurants around. They have been around a long time. Located on Roscoe near Topanga in Canoga Park. I love their clam chowder. Never had a bad meal there and I don't find them too expensive.

I will absolutely never go back to this place ever again. Let me first say, our service was average. Which I'm actually cool with. But the food?!? Way way way overpriced. Entrees started at $19, for chicken? We got fried zucchini for an appetizer and it came with honey mustard. Which is definitely odd. It had a slight flavor of batter and that was just about it. Anyway, I got the shrimp and scallop kabob, and it came with rice and vegetables. The scallops were tasty, but that was it. The rice was dry, not fully cooked and had no flavor and the vegetables were also dry with absolutely no flavor. There wasn't seasoning on anything. Guess what else had no flavor... the shrimp. My boyfriend's entree had mashed potatoes from a box. Really? $22 for an entree and you can't get real mashed potatoes. I don't really have much more to say except if you plan on going here, expect on using a lot of salt and pepper, liking about 1/4 of what you order and feeling like you just got robbed. There are no windows, it is like you are dining in the galley. Great decor-beautiful fish in aquarium perform gracefully all night. My husband had chilian sea bass it was exceptional. My monk fish was dry, but a side of butter helped. Our server was delightful & attentive. Older group of diners who know the best deal in town for a steak & lobster. It is worth a shot! Pros: Rustic, Price, Service
