The sandwiches here are sublime. They do a great job of matching flavors together and the bread is just about as good as one can find in the Boston... More

This place makes a good everything. Loads of fresh veggies and meats with an assortment of tasty breads, Darwin's can make just about any kind of sandwich you want...but come to think of it, i've never asked for a grilled cheese on white....If you're walking on Mt. Auburn, near Harvard sq., Darwin's is the store with the big BUSH beer sign hanging outside. Half of it is dedicated to sandwiches and the other half is a coffee shop, but the place also serves as a convenient beer shop. The selection isn't huge, but it's enough. Beer and sandwiches...too bad you can't buy a beer while you eat in the shop; they only have a merchant's license! Most times their seats are all full anyway. Around lunchtime, expect a winding line to wait on.
One time I ordered one of their veggie sandwiches and asked them to include turkey on it...They charged me for the turkey but didn't put it in the sandwich. It was my only negative experience.

Darwin's is just slightly outside of Harvard Square, which makes it a welcome respite from the bustle of the square and a lovely location in which to relax a bit with a good book and a bite to eat. One side of the store offers an array of sandwiches, quaintly named for area streets, along with chips and sides. The other side provides pastries and coffee with a seating area. Staff on the sandwich side are notoriously disorganized, so expect your sandwich to take anywhere from 5-10 minutes. Staff on the coffee side are quicker, but less friendly. Seating may be difficult to come by at times, but even if it's to go, the sandwiches here are worth the trip. The Hubbard Park is my favorite -- but get extra napkins, as these huge sandwiches can get a bit messy.

Darwin's Ltd is a typical general store in Cambridge with atypical sandwiches. The staff here is super fast and the sandwiches are artsy and unique. They have fine imported deli items which they put on their sandwiches named after area locations. The best are the unusual ingredients that can be found on the combinations like avocados and sprouts. The sandwiches are also a good value for the money and the room available to eat in is always clean and cheery.
