Fromaggio's Kitchen in Huron Village is one of the top gourmet delicatessens in Cambridge. Their selection of cheeses amounts to an education in the medium and you will find exotic condiments, fresh flowers, and proeducte in imaginative abundance. Try that lemon horseradish or fresh garlic pesto samples they have generously laid out. And trot by on Saturdays for a solid munch on grilled sausages, steak or chicken.

This gourmet shop started carrying hard-to-find imported cheeses, and has since branched out to offer other rare and foreign foodstuffs. A little pricey to use for weekly grocery shopping but the wide assortment of goods make it a visionary delight. A wide selection of oils, teas, and culinary instruments make it a gift spot as well.

If Russ and I ever leave Cambridge -- and we probably will -- Formaggio Kitchen will be one of the places we are most sorry to leave behind.
Cheeses from around the world (many aged in a cheese cave below the store), cured meats and house-made pates, olive oils, wines, artisanal breads, chocolates and sweets. Truly, it's like you've died and gone to heaven.
Gourmet food doesn't come cheap -- I have a hard time leaving without spending $20-50 (on CHEESE!) -- but as the sign tacked up to the butcher counter says, "Life is too short to eat supermarket cheeses."
