Pearl Arts and Crafts is huge and caters to art students, entrenched artists and young finger painters. Smaller items such as pens, markers, stamps, stationery and photo albums are on the main floor. Larger and more hardcore items, such as canvases, T-squares, googly eyes, doll heads, soapmaking supplies and fake greenery - as well as kids' stuff - are all downstairs. Pearl aims to sell everything at a discount and usually they do pretty good. A fantastic array of stuff, with staff that more or less knows what it's talking about. Look for signs signaling machines that can scan the mysterious item in your hand and give you a price.

This huge store right on Mass Ave in Central Square offers a large range of products, everything from calligraphy pens and stationary paper to canvas stretchers and professional portfolios. Downstairs has aisles and aisles of craft items -- beads, string, wooden shapes, foam, yarn, etc. And upstairs is a fine arts section with a selection of brushes and paints. I haven't found the staff all that helpful, though, but they do know their stuff, if you ask a specific question. Navigating the store can be confusing -- when looking for acrylic paints, I didn't know whether to go downstairs or upstairs to Fine Arts. Browsing can be fun, but I've found it helps to know what you're looking for.

This wonderful Art & Craft store is a bit different than Michaels or AC Moore. They have such a broad selection of items ranging from pens to all sorts of paper, styrofoam, presentation boards, wooden frames,... The store runs in 2 floors, and it is conveniently located next to Central Sq T station. Best of all, they give you a discount if you present any Student ID to them.
