Sakae is an amazing sushi resaurant. I have been traveling to Burlingame, SF on business over the past several years and never knew this incredible restaurant was 5 minutes from my hotel. I've had sushi at the "best" restaurants in San Francisco and around the country, and Sakae ranks in the top 3 places I've ever been. On the day I visited, Sakae had an incredible variety of specialty sushi, which was marked on the daily blackboard. The medium fatty tuna (Toro) was the highlight of the day; the specialty yellowtail was just as pleasing. Everything we had was fresh and very well prepared. The restaurant is small and unpretentious, which adds to its charm. Sakae also has a very in-depth sake menu, with many hard to find sakes.
If you are looking for a true Japanese sushi experience, Sakae is the place to go. You will find more variety of specialty and hard to find sushi and sake here than at any other sushi restaurant in SF. Truly a gem.
Pros: Freshness, Variety of Sushi and Sake, Master Chef
Cons: Not cheap, but sushi this good shouldn't be cheap

Sakae is a small restaurant off Burlingame Avenue in Burlingame. The sushi menu is broad, so there's much to sample. While the sushi menu is broad, there is no "signature roll" that stands out most to me. Most of what can be ordered can be found in different restaurants. Nonetheless, the sushi is filling and appetitizing to the palate.
Be aware - the place is small, so you may have a wait. In addition, table service is slow, so if you're looking to zip in and out, you may have to reevaluate.
Pros: Lots of different kinds of sushi, intimate restaurant because it's small.
Cons: Slow table service, some rolls were pricier than what they're worth.

It is a small restaurant, but the food is good and fresh. The price is moderate for a japanese restaurant. It's mostly packed during peak hours, but the wait is well-worth the quality of food.

that a small, non-descript location off Burlingame Ave could have such great sushi? The sushi is the best I've had in the bay area. The sushi chef/owner is a lot of fun, but table service can be slow. Impressive sake menu. I've not been to Japan, but the interesting Japanese visitors who dine here (e.g,. an Olympic coach, Japan national wrestling team, etc.) tell me what I already know - this place is worth the higher prices. Strong following of regulars.
Pros: Great sushi, extensive sake menu, amusing sushi chef
Cons: , slow table service

Laugh at the worshippers of Ebisu or Blowfish, this is the place to go for real quality sushi. The best Tokyo-style sushi you'll get outside of Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo. TWF they get fresh fish from Tokyo. Chef's choice may seem pricy, but SO worthwhile for the splurge. Head sushi chef trained under IRON CHEF. Always full of knowlegeable locals and visiting Japanese businessmen. Premium sake you won't fine anywhere else!
Pros: quality sushi & sake, central location, parking
Cons: crowded primetime
