I've been going to Beacons for several years and every time I go there, I am so shocked by the attitude of their sales ppl. It was rainy the last time I went, and the whole place stank like wet dogs (there were two wet dogs running around unattended). When I was trying to pay at the register, they found two price tags in one of the items and accused me of tempering with the price tag in front of a line of customers! How dare they! Of course I didn't do such thing and I was so embarrassed and angry that I lost my words. I explained to them that I didn't do it and they finally agreed to sell that very tempered price of $25!!!!!! item to me but I couldn't believe they acted like they were doing me a huge favor! How ridiculous! Every time I go there I was very shocked by their "I am too cool to help you" attitude, but this time it really did it. They do have a very big selection of clothes but more than half of them are cheap H&Ms from last season. And even if you do find some good stuff after hours of searching, their attitude aren't worth your penny. I am never going back there again.

I went to Beacon's Closet for the first time over the weekend to look for some costumes. I didn't find exactly what I was looking for (how many lavender pantsuits are there out there?), but I was amazed at not only the large selection of goods but the ORGANIZATION. I was SO PLEASANT to walk through a thrift/consignment store and be able to approach the search by color without being overwhelmed by overstocked racks and shelves.
The items we did find were cheap! What a relief that consignment doesn't mean expensive.
I can't wait to go back and find some good shoes (there were even some in my size, which is rare for a 10.5)

There is always a great bargain hiding somewhere in here. Pros: cheap prices (Miss Sixty jeans for $18!), good selection, clean! Cons: crowded, small, only 3 fitting rooms. If you're looking for a new pair of jeans or skirt or some generic article of clothing, get it here -- you can get a designer brand for a fraction of the price. They also carry a lot of shoes, but it is hard to find your size.

Low on cash? Visit this location to sell your clothes. They pay 35% of what they sell the items for. If you just want to trade your clothes you can do that as well. In which case, they would give you 50% of what you brought in. It is a great big warehouse full of everything you need to fill your closet. Weekends are always packed and it turns into a zoo. Your best bet is to get the quieter days during the week. Open 7 days and there is no appointment necessary to sell or trade.

Beacon's Closet is just a place you have to see to understand - prices for the vintage clothing are reasonable but it is the truly amazing atmosphere that makes it distinct. The music, the attitude and the funkiness of the clothing selection are just something to behold even if you are not really looking for anything specific, you will see something to purchase. Even guys can find decent clothes at good prices - my wife always does very well there, which makes sense as the woman's clothing section is much larger. If you are looking for cash to sell your clothing, this may not be the place as they don't take too much and do not pay out a lot - you are way better with clothing credit if you are going to but stuff there anyway.

I thought that BC was the best-- a rare reasonably priced resale shop with good selection. I'm over it. If you're selling, they're snobby, but they will go ahead and donate the stuff they don't want, which is useful since donating clothes can actually be kind of difficult here... there are some good finds, but also a lot of H&M clothes from last season priced at probably more than they were at H&M. I appreciate what they're doing, I just wish they could do it with less 'tude.

I have found that this store is a lot cooler in theory than in reality. They have a ton of stuff, but most of it isn't even vintage--it's just recent stuff from mainstream chain stores like the Gap. It's really tiring sorting through all the racks, and it's especially hard to do that on weekends since the store gets really crowded and there is hardly any space to move between the racks. Most of the clothing is for women--there is a much smaller men's room too, but it seems to mostly contain stuff that is too large for the tight-clothes-loving hipster boys in the area.

Beacon's Closet is somewhere between the Goodwill store and a trendy hipster boutique. It's a great place to take your clothes when you clean out your closet because they'll pay you cash (a little bit) or store credit (a little more) for the few items that are cool enough to grace their clothes racks. They will donate the rest to charity for you. On certain days everything with a chosen color tag will be half off and you can really find some deals. For the non-half-price items, it can be expensive, especially for used clothing. FYI, men's and women's jeans are not separated and all are kept in the women's section.

I have ventured into Beacon's Closet a few times.
As an authority in vintage clothing (I have made attempts at my own internet vintage clothing business), I would say that the quality of "vintage" here leaves a lot to be desired. What isn't current "ultramodern" clothing is dingy, poor quality clothing. While I cannot dispute that one might find a piece of good vintage here and there, Beacon's Closet is quickly becoming an overpriced Salvation Army. And at least Salvation Army has better 50% off days.
If you are looking for plus sizes, you won't find ANY here, and yes, I know it's Williamsburg, but one would think they wouldn't overlook over 1/2 the women in the country.
In general, the prices are better than the other vintage stores in the area, but the quality of vintage threads is much worse.

Where once used clothing could be had for pennies on the dollar, now they can be bought for more than new prices. The store is much bigger after the move, more selection and a bigger buying area for all your vintage goods. People come from all over to buy this stuff. Thanks to all stores like this for cleaning out thrift stores of the good stuff.
