best gym in the area (and probably in entire brooklyn!) I've been a member for 2+ yrs and still very satisfied. Their hours work with my schedule, although 24/7 applies to Mon-Thurs only. Still, more convenient than any other gym! the locker room has all you need after a workout and a shower- from towels, shampoo, etc. to qu-tips, hairspray, deodorant, etc. My only suggestion for them is to place the "butt machine" into a corner, to avoid stares (yes, some men are there mostly to socialize and stare, which i guess is unavoidable in any co-ed gym). Staff are friendly and the classes are great.
Pros: hours, towels, supplies, clean, classes,no wait for machines
Cons: none :)

The prices at the kosher gym are reasonable. They have a good selection of weights and they also tend not to be crowded (at least when I was there). I was able to get their discounted price of $299 for the year because I wasn't there during peak hours. I went during the day only. The only problem I had is that I don't drive and it took me two buses to get there. If you do drive, there doesn't seem to be much parking in the area.

Being a boxing fan and a boxer I've attended this place for about two years at this place and then stopped because I had no more time for it. The facility is quite big and in good condition. Many champions have come out of this place. Everyone there is friendly and is willing to help. If you would like to give boxing a try then definitely go to this place. It has three rings and quite a few punching bags. The owner of this place is a very nice guy. All the accessories you need to start boxing are available right there such as wraps and gear. The price is 70 dollars a month for the us of the gym. The trainers prices vary, you must talk to the one of the many trainers there to find out.

I challenge you to find a better deal for the money than your local YMCA. For a mere $40/month I get a lap pool, huge cardio room and tons of weights.
No, its not glitzy and you won't see models working off that fry they ate yesterday on the treadmill, but you will get the latest equipment and lots of friendly faces. I for one get inspires seeing the 70+ crowd doning their sweats and working out.
Another bonus? Free childcare M-S. That alone is worth the membership fee.

This is an excellent place. You can stand outside for hours watching the sessions go by. They teach both men and women of all ages. They have developed routines that everyone learned and are able to participate in their programs. They teach both strength and knowledge of self defense. I dont know about the proces that they are charging but if you add up the amount of health you gain from the exercise and the amount of knowledge you gain from their japaneese art of karate, you soon realize that it is well worth it.

A good friend of the family sent his kid to this place and I have to say he lost a lot of weight. This is a place which specialized in kickboxing, Muay Thai boxing, karate, and other martial arts. The students at this place do many activities and training sessions last an hour with optional sparring after every session. The head trainer is a very nice guy and a highly awarded master of different martial arts.

Eastern Athletic Club makes exercise from a chore into a nice way to spend the afternoon. They are remarkably sprawling for a New York athletic facility. I found everything I wanted there: from Racquetball to swimming, from ellipticals to knowledgeable personal trainers. I cannot imagine anyone expecting more for their money. I might also mention the amazing and healthy smoothies served at their snack bar.

If you're looking for a great neighborhood gym with state-of-the-art equipment and the latest in group classes, this place has it. It also is comfortable to work out in without feeling self-conscious as it has a very diverse membership. Not too crowded, except during regular “peak” times, but even so, never had a big problem getting a machine.
