Jacques Torres is equally comfortable creating 5-star desserts and covering cornflakes with chocolate -- what's not to like? The shop itself is cute and cozy, and you can look through a window at the chocolates being manufactured next door. My "wicked" spicy hot chocolate had a few lumps, but nothing a brisk stir couldn't fix. I just hope they don't have to post calorie counts.

This place is Heaven in Brooklyn. The exquisite chocolates are also great to look at. And when all you want is a piece of chocolate or a crosisant with coffee, this place is hard to beat. Then, the cobblestone streets and the old brick of the warehouse across the street really add to the overall "ambience" of the site. I love to bring my kids for an afternoon treat after shopping at Pomme, Half Pint or Powerhouse Books. Try the simple chocolate-covered nuts. These make great take-home treats to offer to visitors or are great just to snack on. Pros: Everything Cons: Who could find a con with this chocolate! Oh! Long lines sometimes!

I've done a LOT of chocolate shopping around the world. Therefore, I do not find that Jacques Torres is all that expensive, especially not given the quality. And the superb hot chocolate is a downright bargain by comparison to other gourmet hot chocolates, here and abroad. My husband is partial to the "wicked" hot chocolate (the hot pepper one), but I prefer the classic. If you're buying their filled chocolates to eat yourself, just get them in a baggie because the box costs extra. My favorite, hands down, is the Milk Chocolate Passion Fruit. They have chocolate covered nuts, chocolate covered random other things, and shaped chocolates. This place goes nuts at Easter time, but alas doesn't put things on sale after the holiday. The biggest downside is that there's really no place to sit.
