There aren't many places to stop for art supplies in Park Slope. I recently noticed a new place on 5th Avenue, but it is in a totally different part of the neighborhood than Seventh Avenue Art Supplies. Anyway, this store is small and doesn't have a very big selection of supplies for the serious artist, who will probably want to go to Pearl Paints, but it is a good place to stop for art supplies for kids or for yourself if you are an amateur artist.

This is the only place I know of in the area to get art supplies, and if you're looking for supplies for kids or you do art as a hobby and need basic materials, this is a great resource. However, it is quite small and does not have a very big selection. I would assume that professional artists would be disappointed and need to go to a bigger store like Pearl Paints.

This is a quaint little art supply store that carries most popular materials. It’s quite small and compact but the ambience is terrific. You get the sense of how art stores really should be especially with all those mega Pearl Paints popping up. The staff are helpful in locating stuff for you, however, the majority of times they won’t have what you’re looking for, especially if it’s something out of the ordinary. They do special order, which is great but sometimes you need things right away.
Great place to check out, but if you really need something I suggest you go to Pearl Paint.

For all your art supply needs, I highly suggest you check out the seventh ave art supplies. They have everything you need for your artistic needs and desires. They have all kinds of paints and different kinds of supplies with an excellent team of customer service people to help you if so desired. They are open seven days a week with very good hours. There are even buses and trains which take you right into the area. There isnt much street parking so if you decide to drive then you may have to walk a little bit to get to the store,

Granted they are small and may not stock everything, but they do keep a good supply of the basic meat & potatoes type of art supplies. I love their scrap section - I can usually get whatever I need there without paying full retail price. Occasionally you'll luck out and a damaged package will sell for next to nothing. They are also receptive to suggestions - if they don't have it and you tell them what it is, chances are it'll be there the next time you come in (within reason of course) - it is definitely worth a browse!

If you're looking for an unusual arts/crafts item, I would call ahead because it's a small shop and the chances of them having it are not super-high. It's not a Pearl Art mega-house of art supplies. But it's got your standard stuff - poster board, matte board, a decent paper selection, and miscellaneous tools of the crafts (pencils, etc). They're quite nice - I once just needed a 5x7 piece board and they gave me a small scrap; other times, I've looked through their "scrap" section and found matte board with useable sections up to 14x14 and only been charged pocket change for them. It's also nice to browse, as they usually have some obscure but fun items to look through.
I feel a bit sad when I go in at times, because it's almost always empty and I can only imagine they're desperate for business. But after an initial offer of help from behind the counter, they'll usually leave you alone unless spoken to. I believe they also do a framing business, tied to the adjacent storefront. Perhaps that keeps them going. But it's nice to have a selection - albeit a small one - of art supplies available locally.
