Back to the Land is a long-time Park Slope health food store. I go there only when I absolutely need to. Why? The healthy markup typical of many health food stores is prohibitive. While they have a good produce selection, the lettuces and greens are wilted at times. There's decent product selection, but we've all seen better. The narrow aisles and display areas are filled with staff members who often won't defer to customers who need to get by. If you're in a rush, claustrophobic or prone to panic attacks, don't go when it's either very busy or the stroller set is there.
This is a good place to go if you're looking for supplements/remedies, though they're a bit skimpy on homeopathic remedies. But here's something I can't get over – there are times when I've asked for a supplement (much of it is out of reach) and the staff member has taken it upon him or herself to share their knowledge of what the supplement is and what it can do. Hello! You're a clerk and probably not a licensed medical practitioner.
The employees at the checkout are lovely.

This one of the nicer health food stores in brooklyn. They not only have food, but they also have products such as soaps and shampoos and hair brushes all made from natural materials. The people working there are quite knowledgeable in the health food field and can offer advice if you need it. Its a nice place to go to since there is something there for everyone.

This healthfood became like home when I had a stomach problem. Everyone in the store tried to offer advice and helpful suggestions of which vitamins and supplements to take. When I would not be able to eat regular food i would come into the store and get shakes that were filled with all the nutrients and vitamins needed to stay healthy. Diagnostic tests were also offered to me and time was spend giving advice of how to correct the problem i had.

Dr Aron's weight loss center is an oasis of help. I never realized or considered myself as overweight but surely my knee and back pain were symptoms I'd just thought were from getting older and having a spare tire just part of the game. It took me a few weeks to get the hang of the program, but it was so easy to lose weight! I never thought I'd look younger again! People were amazed and my coworkers blown away. This center is amazing resource for all.

This is a store i visit not on a regular basis. I go here once in a while. They have a variety of vitamins and hebals like all the other health food store. The location is convenient. They have a variety of theme products such as "fat free" or "gluten free." They also offer recommendations when you ask them questions. They have many products to choose from. They also have different teas such as those that help you sleep better, laxitives, or others.

I usually go to Back to the Land on 7th Avenue, but was pleased to find out that there is another health food store in a different part of the neighborhood, on 5th Avenue across from Payless. It is pretty small, but manages to pack in most of your basic health food store needs. The produce section is tiny, but they have a decent selection of frozen and packaged foods. There is also a little juice bar at the front.
