Okay, strictly vegetarian it isn't, but I love Zaftig's in Coolidge Corner. Any time of day, their food is delicious. In fact, now that I've mentioned it, I am craving some challah french toast! I'm a bit on the carnivorous side, so I also head there for reubens and similar fare. The only drawback to Zaftig's is the parking situation in Coolidge Corner. That neighborhood brings out my competitive spirit!

Zaftig's is always good, no matter what you get. It's an updated Jewish deli, with lots of booths and tables for parties of all sizes. You can get extensive breakfast here at all hours, including blintzes, latkes with applesauce, and plain old poached eggs with, of course, a bagel and schmear. This is of course a terrific place to get lox, but even the club sandwiches are good. The staff are helpful and friendly. Huge HUGE wait for brunch on weekends - when they say 90 minutes, they mean it. Leave your name and wander at Booksmith, then check back. Just have a snack before you come. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and there's something here to please the most finicky relative.

Zaftig is a gem. There are still items that I enjoyed years ago when I was a student in Boston that I continue to try to replicate at home. There's an amazing salad with Feta cheese, golden raisins, toasted pine nut and vinaigrette that is just so good. They have all the typical deli stuff - knishes, meatloaf, soups, sandwiches, blintzes - but the decor is so nice and modern; not the kitschy look. The meals are hearty and perfect for a chilly winter night. Try the meatloaf or roasted chicken. They also have all the usual breakfast items and they serve beer and wine. While you're there, check out the artwork. It's very cool.

This deli/restuarant is the best, and they have catering. I just had a party catered and they did a fantastic job! Everything was amazing. I can't say enough, we try to get there at least twice a month for dinner. All the time I've been patronizing this establishment, I can honestly say I've never had a bad experience or service. And thename fits to a tee, as the portions are the epitome of the name (and the lady in the tent of a dress on the wall).

I go to Zaftigs from time to time, and have never left disappointed. They offer a very large menu with a variety of items to choose from, and make delightful breakfast items as well as incredible desserts. Though their mashed potatoes have me absolutely smitten, all of the entrée items that I have tried there have been wonderful. I am most impressed by their dessert items--both the chocolate cake and the apple caramel pie that I had were to die for. I always leave Zaftigs with a full stomach and a not so empty wallet, so it's a very, very good meal for the price. The service has always been excellent; they have a very friendly staff on hand that provide nice, prompt service as well. Go on weekend nights and they tend to be packed, however, so be ready for a wait.
