For less than 20 bucks you can spend all day to see animals you have never seen before. Great place to bring your kids or even a date.
Pros: Animals from all over the world.

Great escape from Manhattan! My boyfriend and I went for the day and saw gorillas, giraffes, lions and tigers up close and personal. Was a great day trip to get a break from the city.

In the Bronx Zoo, in West Farms square by the number 4 and 5 train for transportation, there are a diversity of many animals shipped in from Africa. They have lions, tigers, monkeys, birds, and reptiles. Very fascinating and educational, to tourists, children, and adults. Once I was there and a monkey punched me in the eye through the glass. You can spend many hours there. It was one fun one day get-away. Prices get raised each year, and they are open in late november and december for the christmas spectacular at night.
Pros: Best zoo and largest in any city
Cons: Expensive food

The zoo has many great exhibits such as Jungle World, World of Darkness and Congo Gorilla Forest (a 6.5-acre re-creation of an African rainforest is inhabited by mandrills, red river hogs, monkeys and of course, gorillas). The Reptile House is pretty neat as well with its turtles and VERY large snakes.
Pros: Great Exhibits

Good family oriented zoo with some great animals. I highly recommend the tigers, if they have them in town, usually mid summer. Really cool stuff.

The best zoo I've ever been to. Had an amazing time at the Bronx Zoo, I try go at least once a year. They have added some new exhibits and when I went all the animals were on display. I've heard they do shut some displays down though leading up to fall becuase of weather. I would recommend to anyone regardless of age, the bronx zoo is a blast.

The Zoo is the most fun thing to do. They have changed it since I was a kid for the better. Like the "habitats" the animals "live" in, the rides through the animal areas, the light show in the winter and just walking around, it's great exercise. Yes, the food is not the greatest, but after you're done at the Zoo, you can go over to the Little Italy of the Bronx . . . Arthur Avenue for the best Italian food.
Pros: the animals, the rides, the fun walking around
Cons: parking

This is a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon - especially as a group outing. The ONLY downside is the price. $7 parking, $11 admission, $8 "ticket upgrade" (if you plan on attending any of the "cool exhibits -- do yourself a favor and upgrade). Lunch and refreshments ran approx $10/pp. It's also best to get there when the park opens (10 am) for a good parking spot.
Pros: Beautiful
Cons: $$$$, Parking

The kids love the zoo so much that I have purchased membership. The park is HUGE and has plenty to see. They have made recent renovations so there are better snack/food stands to choose from. Exhibits are clean with lots to see that you won't get to see it all in one visit (not if you actually take the time out to enjoy everything). The only downside is that there are a lot of extras that cost more money.
Pros: Clean, Food/Snack Stands, Large
Cons: Attractions Cost $$
