I've been going to Vinny's for over 20 years -- I wouldn't go anywhere else! Thin, crispy crust ... perfect amount of sauce-to-cheese ratio ... no nonsense atmosphere ... I only wish they'd deliver.

The Bloodroot Restaurant is very likely the best vegetarian restaurant in the country and will remain in my mind as one of the best restaurants of any variety at which I've had the pleasure of eating. Atmosphere, views, excellent food, there's even a bookstore. They are celebrating their 31st year -- an amazing feat for any small business especially a restaurant. I bought their first cookbook when I became a vegetarian and have used that book faithfully for the last 25 years.
What do I love? Fresh bread & scrumptious desserts are made daily. The menu is seasonal & local , organic ingredients are emphasized. The Bloodroot women take standard American and ethnic flavors and improve them by using high quality ingredients and subtle culinary skills, capturing what you love about a dish but removing the meat. Many of their recipes are now vegan.
This is real food for real hunger. I recently had dinner with my wife at Bloodroot and our meals were exceptional: on my plates were a beautiful hearty escarole soup, fresh hot whole wheat bread, a generous tossed salad dressed to perfection, and a piece of vegan lemon curd pie -- zesty with an perfect crust. My wife had faux Thai chicken which had a delicate under note of coconut, along side oatmeal sunflower bread that was soft and luscious, and chocolate cake. And this chocolate cake was worth Every calorie.
While you're at the Bloodroot, pickup copies of their new 2 volume cookbook. This place is wonderful!

At Massimo's I finnaly have found all the tastes and the flavours of my motherland.
I tried a lot of "Italian Restaurants" in Bridgeport, but only here I've found the food my mother (Italian) used to cook when I was young.
Particullary recommended the Clams (and all the seafood) and the dishes based on Eggplants.
Last thing: don't just go for one shot there. Maybe one day the cook woke up not in its best day. But 99% of the time evrything there is special!

If I were to have a last meal (and my mother wasn't available to cook) I would choose nachos from Taco Loco. When I am in the mood (which is more often than I like to admit) I order what my daughter affectionately calls a "Trough of Nachos". There is mucho chips, fresh salsa, black beans and meat. The meal is huge and plenty for my small family. The take out meals are delicious, affordable and generous. It is also nice to eat at the restaurant, too.
Taco Loco's service is courteous and the atmosphere is casual and relaxing. There is even al fresco dining, but since the equator recently relocated to Connecticut, I would suggest eating inside with the air-conditioning. (If you like it hot, order extra jalapenos.)

Italian food of high quality, served by attentive staff in a distractingly imposing 19th century bank building designed by Cass GIlbert, impeccably restored and hung with interesting art by local painters.
Pros: excellent food
Cons: short menu

This has to be the best restaurant that I have ever been to. The food was out of the world and the service was just as good. The owners are always there working hard and showing their importance of a customers fine dinning experience. I would recommend this place to all. They are also moving to a new and bigger location come summer, I cant wait. I will be first in line for a reservation.

No-frills restaurant in Bridgeport with authentic Mexican - not the more familiar Tex-Mex - cuisine. Cactus salad was new to us but interesting and enjoyable. The mole chicken was extremely fresh and tender with a spicy sauce. All in all far better than other Mexican restaurants in swankier surrounding neighborhoods. Highly recommended.
Pros: very fresh ingredients well prepared
Cons: small drinks menu
