This is a really fun shop to poke around in. It's filled with lots of fun and whimsical things - some antique, some new. You can buy a garden stake for $1 or a large piece of furniture for several hundred. Each time I've been in there the ladies who work there are so friendly and helpful. I think that's helped their business a lot. Next time you're on Pearl Street, take a peek inside.

At Good Use they take the old and make it new again. In this modestly-sized store you'll find furniture and home decor that's been given new life. Much of it made newly funky to appeal to their target clientele - young and affluent. It's a fun place to stop in and look around. Some of the pieces seem like they're a bit too expensive for the amount of "value" that's been added. But you may just find that unique piece you've been needing.

McGuckin's is not your father's hardware store. This store has it all, and it's a misnomer to refer to it merely as a hardware store.
Sure, they have hardware, but they also happen to carry everything else, too. It's too much to list it all here, but it's safe to say that if you were looking for pretty much anything, and you didn't want to leave Boulder, I could send you to McGuckin's and you'd find it.
Also, they staff the place with armies of helpful, blue and green vested individuals. You can't swing a dead branch in McGuckin's without hitting a smiling customer service representative.
Only downside: more pricey than Dad's hardware store.

I enjoy going to Peppercorn. They have an amazing selection of cook books and all the cooking gear you need to make any type of food. They celebrate Christmas year round, upstairs in their home decor area. They carry everything from Fiesta Ware to Versace China. And even have a section for kitchen linens (main floor) and one for bed and bath linens(upstairs). The best time to go to Peppercorn is during the week, it is so crowded on the weekend. Also if you are looking for something specific be sure to ask an associate to help you find it, they have a lot of merchandise and you may never find it on your own. Have fun and check out the Colorado foods section.

Planetary Solutions is one of those businesses you really want to survive - against the odds. They're all about making eco-friendly choices in building materials. Why buy linoleum flooring when you can get fast-growing, sustainable bamboo? Why buy paint with chemicals when you can get milk-based paints that work just as well? The list goes on and on. When you're ready to do a home project, check here to find the "green" alternative.

Have you ever tried to do your own landscaping? I have, and it took me the entire summer to get 60% of the way finished. There was no way I was going to do the last bit.
On the recommendation of a neighbor, I called Greener Image Landscaping, and before I knew it I had a competitive bid that I could accept and the job was finished within a week.

This place not only sells futons in various shapes, styles and sizes, they also sell the latest in groovy frames to go with them. Check out the Rollo.
I bought my first futon from this place years ago, and this was the store that turned me on to the concept of the inner spring futon (more comfortable than a normal futon). Take a peak.

I have no idea for how long or with what frequency these folks have been churning out Sky Chairs, but I’ve seen them everywhere. They’re the chairs that hang from your trees, your porch, your ceiling – that suspend you in a web of canvas, rope and wooden dowels. They’ve come a long way, baby – with footrests and armrests, now! And they’re made right here in Boulder!
Their store is not easy to find, but if you want to buy directly from their storefront, between 22nd and 23rd street in the alley off of Pearl Street you will find Sky Chairs.

It's often too easy to fall into the trap of frequenting the "big box" home improvement stores anytime you need something related to home improvement. However, the individual service and attention that you can get from a locally owned business is often superior. This great store can handle all models of Toro and Stihl, and offer both pickup and delivery.
